Nice fish Louis, that scamp is ridiculous! We went deep yesterday looking for big AJs to get on the board early, but the big boys weren't home. Mine was only 40 lbs or so.

That scamp, wow!!!! If you've got a rig that can produce a few of them, I'll bring you all the hogfish and stone crabs you can eat for a chance at them.
Since we've already started submissions this year, it's a little late changing the rules, but in following years, it might be a good idea to normalize the entries based on a standard. For example, you could weigh a fish, and then divide by the world record weight (ISUA). The resultant could be the submission standard. That might keep all entries more in line with what's locally available. If you use ISUA as the standard, fish less than 10 pounds would be divided by 10 pounds (5 for freshwater). As an example, Louis's scamp would be (21.0/19.0) = 1.105 points. His AJ (47.3.166.2) = 0.2846 points. With the same logic, it would take a 72# gag (72/64.4) or 95,5# black (95.5/86.4) to beat that scamp. I could go down to the Keys on opening day, and have the opportunity to shoot a dozen blacks that would beat a 21 pound scamp, but it would take a hell of a black to give me more "bragging rights" than a 21# scamp. (Food for thought) |
