My 9 year old has stuck with his lessons, practiced every night, and is now eligible for the "If you stick with this, we will get you a better guitar" upgrade.

I am looking for a nice used electric guitar...and an amp would be a possibility as well...if the price is right.

Man, I just gave away a guitar not long ago. it as a Squire Stratocaster which is almost identical to a Fender strat. had a Gig bag, amp and everything.
