Well when that darn sub is moving fast and you barely have enough time to get down there before it passes its hard not to keep focused. Most of the time we had to dive down and wait on it to come by. Then get off the wreck and swim too it, pose, shoot, and swim back up from 80ft. You feel drained when you hit the surface. It was real fun! We dove on it 3 times I think and out of 50 pics or something these are the only ones that were good. Even then they are still fixed up a little using software.
Now we had some awesome props like the sea turtles that wouldnt leave me alone and some sharks. But the sharks were not cooperating and left everytime we dove.

That last pic is particularly impressive. I can just imagine what one of the kids on the submarine was saying: "Look mom, it's Aquaman!"

Well when you that deep its black and white and color is scarce. Photo shop is just used to bring out the contrast and add some color. The pics look good for the crappy vis that day.
Thanks everyone for the comments.

Thanks for the comments. I shall post the link to Kurt Chambers webpage dedicated to his great camera skillz. All I can do right now is post some pics on here till that is up and running. I have a few more of him and my other dive bud out there if you guys want to see more.

Here are some more of myself, Derek LeVault, and Kurt Chambers. Some might be familiar with you. I think that airplane wreck is 120ft depending on tides.

Awesome pictures!!!!!

The diver with the C4 fins, the picture with the scuba divers in the background, has excellent kicking technique. Must be a very experienced diver.

Well it may seem like he does but his kicks are very very wide and that was looked down apon at the PFC. But he is a very skilled diver and that kick seems to work for him.

Breathlesssight,
First of all those pictures are amazing! My favorite is the ascent from the airplaine pic that shows the whole water column...badass. Also are you using the beuchat carbon fins? What do you think of them? Thanks,
-Chris

Well the water wasnt that clear. I was one of those days where you can see through the water but it was cloudy so to speak. The current was rippin and it was a chore to even hold on to our kayak which was tied to the mooring ball. Also there was some good swells and tide change. I think Kurt did some good editing with the clarity. Not to mention his awesome camera!

I like the beuchat carbon fins as compared to my HSD fins. They arent really stiff but they are effecient and very easy on the leg muscles. I know my HSDs with the side rails take a lot of effort to move and I get a good leg work out. I think its all about the snap and not so much the channeling of water. But I have never tried the carbon fins with rails so maybe its just that becuase the HSDs are made of fiber glass and its a straight fin its hard to push through the water.
But I really like my Beuchat carbons not to mention its like the most comfortable footpocket

Hey Breathless, how'd you setup your cam. to get that b/w pic with the entire water column? Is it some kind of IR filter on the lens with it set to monochromatic?

I'm curious because I'm getting into photography (just got a housing for my coolpix 5900ED).

I didnt take that pic but the way I do it is you can use a program like infranview or even photoshop. My crappy canon sd900 can take b/w pics but I dont set it to it since I just edit it in a program.

Yea those pics are pretty interesting. The submarine in the picture makes you think that the depth is something like 200 feet since most average folks would assume that most submarine pics in the water like that are in hundreds of feet of water. At least that is what I thought seein them before I read the thread.

It's like "Hey diver dude, what's up?" "Oh, not much, just holdin my breath..."

thats insane, I know there are a few of us who can dive down there, but we can't make it look that good, we usually drop down and come right up lol

Ya I was fortunate to even find that ship with Kurt. We didnt have a gps and at first we were miles from shore in deep, deeep, deeeep water. Kurt goes to 115ft and comes up and says, I cant see botom. I could only chuckle. Sure enough we were way off and after a long paddle back towards shore we found it. HoooRay!!!!
Well if you like the airplane pic you should love this one.

Are we going to get any descent conditions in Okinawa is the question. Seems like all the bad weather hits when I'm off work. And it's beautiful when I'm at work. Hopefully it will be nice for labor day. Still going on the Blue Water trip?

What's it gonna cost? My dive buddy is still out of commission and will be for at least 2 more weekends. He had a terrible staff infection. Any plans for today? Did you talk to brownsuit about the BW trip yet? I bet he'd be interested.

I saw a magazine in Maui that had many photos in it that were unmistakenly Kurt's. Sorry, I don't recall the magazine's name, but it was like a freedive picture book.
