I know there is a sunken ship up north call the Emmons or something. Ed Dunn goes diving there all the time.

Article on the Emmons:
http://www.toriitraining.com/uss_emmons.htm

The USS Emmons final resting place is in 147 feet of water exactly 1,000 meters north-northeast of Okinawa’s Kouri Island.

Thanks barney but that wont do for photo op. Too deep I would say to have time to get any good pics of a freediver. Did you read that thing? Stubborn japanese not giving the coordinates. Also the divers that thaught they could make a buck were blown up and because of these japanese salvage people we have no wrecks to explore :( Oh well I guess.
I thaught I read somewhere that there is a buddah statue somewhere.

Don't know whether it's still there.

There's a statue on the Sunabe Seawall. It's small. A lot of divers pick it up and place it on a coral head to take pictures of it. There's a dive book at the BX/PX that has a general "map" of the okinawa dive sites. There's also a sunken japanese boat at devils cove near the mouth of the Hija River. That book will show where its located.

Unless its deeper now I have been all over the sea wall and havent seen it. Just heard about it. I thaught it was straight out from the chain since thats where all the scuba divers go. So I went out to that buoy from there and found nothing. So I dont know if its still there. If its small enough to move it might not be. Then again I might not be looking in the right spot.

Yea, I think it wasn't far from the end of that chain at the reef's edge. The statue was only about 3 ft tall as I recall.

BS - haven't seen you at the pool lunchtime lately. r/ Ben

Haha this is Ben? Man I went to the pool every tues and thurs for lunch. I was even there like early part of lunch and then the later part. Shoot I even swam for an hour hoping to catch you.
Well either way you ran into Rob and he told me the story.
To why Im not there during lunch is simple. I dont have time since Im working during the day now. So I go early morning when the water is freezing or after work on mon, wed, and fri.

Take care,
kev

I don't understand how we've missed each other at the pool. I just came across this forum this week along with the one you guys apparently used to use. I've enjoyed the reads and hope I can tag along with you soon. I'm scheduled to DM a Kerama trip this Saturday unless it canx. But, I can go Sunday if that's okay. What's the Labor Day plan? I sent you PM with my phone and email.

Well I heard talk around the shop about something of a typhoon but I didnt see anything on radar. Hopefully things stay calm for labor day. I guess we are going out on a boat for $125 a person or maybe less. I wouldnt get your hopes up for every BW trip we set up it gets cancled cuz the captains back out.
Ill be in the water both days I think. Saturday is suppose to be crappy. So your doing a dive at the Keramas that day? Must be nice to get out there. Heard the fish are nice size. Any structures out there?
Im not sure whats up sunday just yet, I might already have plans. :fish:

The are some nice spots in the Keramas and the Sea Lady skipper can put you on the best of the best ones if conditions are right. We have to be mindful of the experience level of the divers on board though. I nearly always see big taman, some record size I'd say. I've been to one sunk fishing boat about 50' long maybe.

Strange that Kadena wx shows TC3, but JMA says currently no storms. Maybe surfers can have fun on the east side and we can play on the west side. I'm guessing the Kerama trip won't go, but then they might dive near west shore somewhere. If the trip canx I'd like to freedive/spear somewhere. Maybe I can meet you guys.

So the Kerama trip is a scuba trip or a fishing one?
Ya its strange, its all nice outside and the kadena forecast has been wrong thus far
I dont mind you come out, Im sure with all the time you spend in the pool you can dive pretty good. Unfortunately Im not 100% sure whats going on yet but I should know by tomorrow.
Sunken fishing boat? How deep is that? The trip sounds interesting.

It's scuba. The sunken boat is less than 80'. It's certainly more interesting than the one at Devil's Cove, but doesn't compare to Emmons. Did you get my PM?

Ben,

Yup I got it.
Awesome I wouldnt mind freediving that boat and maybe hand a well photogenic scuba diver my camera while I dive on the boat. :D

I think it's on the south side of Zamami-jima. I don't know where we are most of the time over there. Kerama dives through Kadena Marina are $70 for a two-dive trip. Tanks are included whether you use them or not. Mark Medges skippers the Sea Lady. He can put you right on it.

Ok well we should do this thing where I pay and you use my tanks. That way we only spend $70 if allowed. :D
Another thing I want to do and get photos of is the island where all the HammerHeads congragate. That would be saweeeeeet!

I was looking at Google earth, not google maps, the program and there are some wrecks that are shown on there. From what I read it didn't have exact specifics, but I guess it would put you in the right ball park. Check it out if you haven't already. There were a couple on the south west edge that I saw. Didn't look to deep into it though. It was like 2 in the morning.

They are all too deep. I have seen them on google earth. Anyone can add coordinates on there so the info isnt even accurate anyhow. I could go there but the lat and long coordinates could be off.
