That was a royal pain in the ass upgrading servers, and now probably nobody will use the fu**ing forums for another 6 months. But they should be working now...

There's some news feeds on the site I still have to fix but otherwise it looks good so far.

Not currently working

Here is the message I'm getting "Sorry, WSG forums are unavailable right now while I move the site to a server that can better handle the increased forum traffic.

Please check back over the weekend..."

Same thing here.

You know what, it's probably DNS propogation. I switched the DNS over about 6 hours ago to the new server. Some ISP's probably haven't got the message yet. (You're still seing the old site). It's working for a few of us here in New Orleans right now. Sorry, that could take a while in some places. Usually it works itself out within 24 hours.

I tried registering at your site, but the security image (with the 6 letters) won't load. I just see a place holder graphic with a little red "x".

I'll check it out. In the meantime, email me you username and password if you want to get on. I'll post when it's fixed.

Thats great to hear.
We will continue to promote your site here

I have been wanting to say something to you and just haven't had a chance yet. I found out about your site the day before we went live, I had already invested a considerable amount time and money. I want to say that your website is very thorough and well though out, that you too have invested alot in to creating and building it. I dont know you personally and I am sorry you were lumped in with the rest of us by another forum. Hell you might have even agreed with the management, but were still retaliated against.

FOR THE RECORD To the best of my knowledge nolaspearfishing was an innoccent bystander who got caught up in the aftermath unjustly.

Hey Grauwer,

It's been kind of a crazy past few days. I never expected to get all those registations at once so I had delayed moving the site to the better server I had set up. The forums have only been up on my site about a month, even though the site has been around for about a year now. I hadn't promoted it much because it takes a while for new sites to show up in the search engines these days, and I don't like to rush things. For the past 3-6 months though, we've been showing up strong, usually in the top 3 for "spearfishing" on Google, so that's been bringing in a lot of new visitors. I'll send you a pm, and maybe we can link to each other from our forums somewhere.

I've been on SB a while now username, "hartwelltv." I usually just posted in the upper gulf coast section, although I'd laugh my ass off at some of the stuff these other guys wrote in other places. I like to have a good time, and probably 90% of my comments are being sarcastic or messing with friends. Anyway, I always stayed out of any political shit on SB. I got a bunch of angry emails from Chad Carney yesterday, one a "cease and decist," and another angry email from Tony, and I've never done anything to those guys (except support Tony's forum by posting on it). That's life though. I guess some people can't take being messed with.

That's pretty messed up. Reminds me of what a buddy of mine went through with Scubaboard a while back. A lot of the same activities were going on. Funny how they are both SBs.

In fact, now that I think about it, there are a lot of parallels. My friend got tired of posts being deleted, changed, etc. So he decided to start his own site. SB banned him, and several others. The url for his new site would magically get replaced by ***** in posts and even PMs. Then the letters came, and even several of the SB gestapo invaded his site and joined under fictitious names.

Brian, what site was that? Is it still up?

It's not up anymore, but not due to actions by SB, more due to server problems. It was www.scubatalk.com, which is still up, but I think it's someone else running it now.

I've seen a couple of people get sued or threatened over stuff like this. Based on their success in defending themselves, neither spearfishingplanet or worldspearfishing has anything to worry about.

Places where you could get in trouble would be if you used a very similar name, and made an effort into misleading people into thinking they had logged onto SB. A similar name could also get you in trouble if you offered to sell the site to SB.

But, neither of those are happening with either of these sites. SB can't claim that they own the rights to the word "spear," so I don't think you have anything to worry about.

What the hell did you do wrong? You did nothing. Why the angry emails?

They were pissed because of things other people posted, and I guess I didn't take them down "quick enough." I was actually going to leave it all up until I started thinking about the legal issues...
