Hey guys, coming down to knights key this weekend with a couple of buddies to find the lobster. It is a last minute trip and all we are bringing is the small skiff. We want to stay close to shore due to the boat, mostly going to dive the 7 mile. Got a hooka rig of mine we are bringing. Usually when I go we go to the outer islands. How is the lobster close in right now? Any suggestions or numbers? I have a book full of numbers for the gulf around St. Petersburg and willing to trade if interested. Not looking for any honey holes, just something to get a limit on. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. PM me if you want.

You do realize that the 7 mile bridge is nowhere near Islamorada?

He probably meant Marathon. I always get the 2 confused also.

i work in marathon and travel the 7 mile every day. it gets hammered daily for bugs. best bet is gulf side for bugs. larger bugs will be west in the atlantic.

if your near seven mile. try red bay bank. easy to find and troll around for holes with bugs.

i agree with brad...
bugs are getting scarce right now, with the rec divers and the traps...they are few and far between.
prepare for some long dives and lots of shorts.
you may have better luck on the reef where pressure is a little less, but you will still have to search and search.
the advantage is that lobsters drop their eggs on the moon phase, and full mone is today...so all those laden females may be egg-less soon.

Yes you are right I totally got them backwards. We are staying pretty much in Knights Key at a little place called the blue moon motel or something. We only have a 14 skiff, and as much as I want to go deeper offshore, that boat makes it difficult. I thank everyone for any suggestions.

You're lost again!!!
I live on Knight's Key. There is no Blue Moon hotel/Motel here.
Can't help with bugs. We don't hunt them and as Keez said they are scarce & small from what i've seen on the reef
