View Full Version : future euro gun
deepdestroyer 08-29-2007, 10:41 PM Heres some pics of a stock I just laminated up today. So far I have 5 vertical laminations and might do one horizontal lamination on the bottom of the stock. I am also going to add 4 more short vertical laminations, two on each side of the stock which will be strictly for esthetics....I know that doesn't make sense but the pics will describe it better than I can.
The gun is going to be a Euro design. I haven't decided on length yet but am guessing it will end up being around the size of a 110-120.
kjflyfish 08-29-2007, 10:44 PM Looks great! The purpleheart and lace laminates will look killer. What about the handle?
deepdestroyer 08-29-2007, 10:47 PM Thanks, the purpleheart and lace are scraps from my last project and I figured I would use them. I am going to build my own handle again, this one will be solid wood though!
kjflyfish 08-29-2007, 10:57 PM Nice! Mortise and tenon? If you use purpleheart as a backbone for the handle, it would be solid as a rock. What are you powering it with? 2 5/8?
deepdestroyer 08-29-2007, 11:12 PM I am not even sure what mortise and tenion is, but I am assuming that means I would make the handle fit into the stock and pin it in place? That will most likely be the way it will be done. As for the power you hit the nail on the head!
orangekiwi 08-30-2007, 06:49 AM you are going to make a gun like the new omer cayman, oval shaped barrel!
will be interesting to see the end result, good luck !!!
deepdestroyer 08-31-2007, 07:11 PM I added the last laminations yesterday and decided last minute to not use the purpleheart and lace. So I went with one more strip of teak on the bottom and one piece of brazzilian cherry on each side. Ill post pics in a few days as me camera has been borrowed for a week.
deepdestroyer 09-26-2007, 06:00 PM Well I let the wood age about a month and it didnt move at all so I squared it up and started on it. So far I only have the trigger in because Im waiting on a bit to come so I can do the track. But what I wanted to show you was the custom handle I built...Thanks to Tin Man, and Griswold for the idea!!
Now I just need to polish it up and make it look pretty, but I am very pleased with the comfort. It is amazing how much better it feels when gripping the handle now!!!
deepdestroyer 09-26-2007, 06:02 PM more.
orangekiwi 09-27-2007, 01:09 AM that looks the part ! will the handle stay that colour or will you paint it?
deepdestroyer 09-27-2007, 01:17 AM I'm not sure yet it depends on how it looks when the gun is finished. right now the handle isn't completely finished either, I still need to give it a bit of sanding and polishing so it isn't quite so ugly looking. I kinda like the blue though.
Skinydiver 09-27-2007, 08:36 AM Nice, I'm going to use this as my tutorial for the gun I plan to build in the future when I will be land locked. :pissed: The gun looks good so far. Can't wait to see more.
deepdestroyer 10-01-2007, 11:01 PM Today I did a little bit of work...got the enclosed track in and almost finished one side of the in-line band pull muzzle. I like this gun already!
Nice gun bro!
You should test the handle with your dive glove on....but it looks like a great fit either way
Cherokee Spear 10-02-2007, 09:26 AM What kind of trigger mech are you using?
deepdestroyer 10-02-2007, 10:36 AM poseidensub
Blake Schaff 10-02-2007, 06:07 PM Just a quick question, why are you making a Euro gun and not making the handle high set? It seems a little counterproductive to me. But other than that it looks good. Great job on the handle.

Good point, Im glad you asked...I was and still am going to make the handle higher and more in-line with the stock, but the trigger mech I got for this one uses a different kind of line release which sticks out the underside of the mech...Anyway I wasnt sure just how much wood could be taken away and still be able to install the line release. When I get the line release installed however I will be able to see exactly where I will be able to adjust and by how much!
deepdestroyer 10-02-2007, 07:21 PM Now more pics, and no I did not stand in front of the gun for that last pic, rather just held the camera in place with a stretched arm.
deepdestroyer 10-02-2007, 07:25 PM you can see that the band only stays in the band slot for about half the length of the gun:(
Skinydiver 10-02-2007, 09:18 PM That thing looks nice. I bet you're ready to get it wet. Would the band not staying in the band track affect its performance? Looks like a solid gun to me.
jeepshapes 10-02-2007, 09:46 PM sweet. keep up the good work. i have made palm swell on some of my shotguns the same way you made your handle.
settingsteel 10-02-2007, 11:43 PM guns looking mighty fine Deep:smthumbup:, what did you use to make the handle if you don't mind me asking?
deepdestroyer 10-02-2007, 11:58 PM skinydiver- Thanks and I dont think it will perform any different I just wanted it to stay in the band slot the length of the gun.
Settingsteel- I used a type of dental acrylic called triad!
Almost finished now all I need to do is open up the first 6 inches of the track and make a but some how!
deepdestroyer 10-03-2007, 09:52 PM I put on the trigger guard today. Im going to try and add the butt tomorrow and hopefully pick up a paint sprayer by the end of the week to apply the finish!
settingsteel 10-03-2007, 10:25 PM hiya deep, thx for the 411
gun's looking sweeet:smthumbup:
was it a dilema to do the trigger sx of the gun- that is the routing and installation- or was it as easy as drilling a pilot hole, routing out the area and dropping the trigger in- somehow that seems to simplistic:nono:

For the trigger mech, I just rout out the pocket with a 1/2in straight bit then square the edges with a chisel. After that I use a 1/4 in strait bit to rout out the smaller pocket on the underside. Once the trigger fit in the pocket properly I measured and drilled the wholes to pin it in place.
If you would like I will be building another gun which will most likely be a longer version of this gun in another two weeks or so and I will be happy to take pics for every step of trigger instalation!
I'm telling the boss your stealing all the triad from work :D. I made a custom tray yesterday, and was thinking of making a handle instead while it was curing in the oven.
Gamble 10-03-2007, 11:59 PM So Jason how much does triad go for on the dental black market,,, in black.:D:D
deepdestroyer 10-04-2007, 12:03 AM $1.50 a sheet....my handle cost about 6 dollars...
See anything you want different on your Jason? If you want Ill cut out a handle base and you can do the triad thing down there and ship it back. Oh and the boss doesnt mind:smthumbup:
Speareasy 10-04-2007, 12:09 AM $1.50 a sheet....my handle cost about 6 dollars......................
deepdestroyer 10-04-2007, 12:19 AM ...................
yup the stuff is not very expensive, however if I were going to sell a handle like this I would have to charge more because it did take me quite a while to grind everything smooth and polish it enough to get it to shine a little....even still I was unable to get the polished surface that I wanted.

Ty very much Deep that would be , if not an inconveniece, although from your explanation it sounds pretty straightforward
I figure you got that dental putty from a dental place, or am I a fugurin' wrong:scratchhead:
I'm obviously contemplating making my son :liar: a gun, in the near distance
Speareasy 10-04-2007, 12:50 AM however if I were going to sell a handle like this I would have to charge more because it did take me quite a while to grind everything smooth and polish it enough to get it to shine a littleAre you going into business selling blue handles?
deepdestroyer 10-04-2007, 01:21 AM no way...I will leave that up to tin man and Griswold it was their idea...however I cant afford to keep building guns for myself so Im going to start selling a few to friends and whatnot, and if anybody wants one on a gun I will make one for them.
