View Full Version : Somewhat confused... NAFTA SuperHiway ?
Aaron Proffitt 09-07-2007, 04:33 PM Been hearing alot about this and so I googled it so I could look it over.
According to www.spp.gov, the gov. is not involved in planning the NAFTA Super Highway;but instead some states 'may' be involved or spearheading the iniative along with private companies.
A couple of things here;
1.Interstates are typically federally funded projects,so, the feds would have to be involved in it.Right ?
2.Why would this nec. be a bad thing ?I mean we already trade with Can. and Mexico,so wouldn't a cost effective trade route be better for the consumers as a whole ?
I mean,what am I missing ? I understand how NAU could be a threat to our national autonomy/soverignity;but a trade route ?
Sasquatch 09-07-2007, 04:36 PM Does it have anything to do with the fact that we're letting Mexican trucks deliver goods directly to addresses in the US?
(which I am vehemently against)

Can't they already do this as well as US drivers do likewise in Mexico(not that they would want to,just saying) ?
bgbill 09-07-2007, 05:06 PM This will make it easier for Mexico to get its trucks into the United States, yet the trucks from Mexico do not have the same guidelines that the truckers from the United States have to follow.
It will also make smuggling drugs and or people into the US a lot easier, why jump the border when you can just ride in the back of a semi?
Mexico is also building huge Ports, and pretty soon all of the goods from China will be shipped to mexico and then transported into the US by mexican truckers.
This NAFTA Super Highway is not good for the US, for some reason Bush and others think the US should have open borders and trade with mexico and canada, remember Bush 41's New World Order?
Sasquatch 09-07-2007, 05:07 PM No, commercial mexican vehicles are not allowed past the border. There's a pilot program opening up this week to allow them to go to US addresess. I think it is a clear violation of sovreignity.

Nope, not for commercial drivers- just tourists. However, to be fair, we do let those guys from the 51st state (Canada) do deliveries.

Ok,now I'm starting to get a better view of the issue.I hadn't thought about Chinese goods being shipped to Mexico then trucked up here. Are the Teamsters all over this one ?
Is this highway actually in the works ?Seems most of what I read was speculation and theories.

Since when did the United States Government give a crap about US sovereignty?
We have the Mexican Police and Army firing on US Border Patrol Agents and US Citizens on the United States side of the border, yet we do nothing about it, except put 2 of our Border Patrol Agents in prison for shooting a mexican drug smuggler who fired at them on our side of the border.

I know I'm sounding like a total cone here, but what the hell. All the goods we're getting from Mexico now,I'm assuming they're imported by rail ?

I could care less about the teamsters they are a bunch of scumbags, but I am concerened about mexican truckers on our roads.
Mexico is pretty much a shit hole, and they don't take care of their country, why would they take care of ours?

Heh, nope, they deliver them to warehouses on the border where US truckers take them to their destination.
Sasquatch 09-10-2007, 12:17 PM This should be a warning...
http://www.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/americas/09/10/mexico.explosion/
35 people killed in a Mexican truck explosion.

Very well said....not to generalize but many of them would rather throw shit on the ground than walk five feet to a trash can.....If you have been to Mexico you will know exactly what I am talking about...
