View Full Version : bacteria north of Ft Lauderdale - beaches closed Mambo Dave 09-08-2007, 01:51 PM http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/local/southflorida/sfl-0907pompanobeach,0,7804955.story I went out this morning anyway. Speareasy 09-08-2007, 02:00 PM It's just the BWC (Broward Water Crappers) annual club meeting, they mess up the water every year. Where are the fish pics? Mambo Dave 09-08-2007, 11:36 PM Where are the fish pics? I remember the old-timers up in Pittsburgh tell of swimming in the Ohio river. They said they used to have to shoo, or splash, the 'brown' trout away (turds). When I used to swim in it, the Ohio still made the hair on my head hard as a rock when it dried. Swimming Pompano was sorta like that today... :D But my buddy got sick (ate a ham and three-cheese omlette before heading out), so we only spent two hours out there... Hell, I could have spent 4 or 5 hours, but... So - no fish pics. (That would also require a digital camera, but neither of mine work anymore, lol). Speareasy 09-08-2007, 11:46 PM How was the vis? Gerald 09-09-2007, 07:03 PM Dan, Vis in shallow both north and south of PE was nasty yesterday, especially on the surface. Out in 50+ feet south of the port we had top to bottom after the wind shifted to the south east. The outgoing tide made sure that the clean water didn't reach the shallows though. It was also quite a bit rougher than forecast... Speareasy 09-09-2007, 09:53 PM Thank you. Mambo Dave 09-09-2007, 10:09 PM I second that vis report - out at the ledge it was top to bottom... could have been clearer, but it was fine. The REAL bad stuff, and probably the bacteria, seemed to be limited to just a little past the swimming buoys. Past that we were good to go. We just held our breath for the first 100 yards. :awink: In retrospect, my plan of alcoholling-up to kill any bacteria in my stomach might have been a good idea. |
