jess and i got out today for some spearing, after laying low yesterday since someone was hung over!!!

rolled out to some new stuff i marked and pitched the anchor, it grabbed and as we cleated off it snapped us around like it was hooked to a freight train.

the current was creating a wake....as in WAVES...behind the boat.

we decided to try a quick dive just to see what the structure was. and it was hand over hand while kicking just to get down the anchor line. current subsided at about 70ft and we hit 100ft and saw some structure but nothing worth really hunting. called the dive after 10mins.

went in shallower hoping the current would be less, but it wasn't. i jumped in on a light show on the bottom finder and polished off my tank, jess stayed topside and sunned her pasty white boobies.

some nice sturcture and a few fish swimiing around but nothing great. managed a dinner-sized mutton and passed on a few big mangos (not my fav). it will be some structure worth visiting again.

should have a pic up when i fillet the bugger.

was nice to get on the water before the idiots get to thick (mini season).

what did you have for vis?

was a VERY distint green/blue line on top of the reef.

on the ledges in 80 it was about 60-70 vertical, maybe a little less horizontal.

on the dive in 100 there was some silt on the bottom so maybe 40ft

noticable thermocline on both dives, it was where the current slacked off.

Cool man, at least you didnt come home empty handed. The current was moving fairly well off Islamorada yesterday, but nothing like you describe. I was busting my ass doing the up and down thing in 20ft trying to catch a rock beauty for the fish tank.

BTW, shoot all the mangos you want, Ill drive down and take em off your hands! jk man, just curious though - why dont you like em?

don't dislike them but def like other fish we get better. more fishy taste & red meat to them then say my fav, hogfish

exactly...just have a stronger flavor most of the time.

would much rather shoot muttons, hogs and blacks.

besides, you rarely see them big enough to make it worth while. well except for june and july.

they are thick out there, could have limited out on 18-24" mangos the other day, but i just keept it to 2 for a friend.

if you want em...i'll shoot em...let me know
