View Full Version : AB Biller Sea Hornet Parts
Cherokee Spear 09-19-2007, 09:21 AM My uncle ran across a speargun in a yard sale or something and bought it for really cheap because there was a few things wrong with it. They said the trigger mechanism was locked up on it and it was missing parts, along with having the plastic muzzle broken. We found out by using a shaft from another gun we have that the trigger mech was working perfectly? He wasn't able to tell us what kind it was so when he brought it over we find out it's an AB Biller Sea Hornet and I think it's 48" (I haven't broke out the tape on it or anything, just a guess). It looks like the wood is mahogany or something similar and is in very good shape. The only problems are:
1. Doesn't have a shaft.
2. The plastic muzzle on the end that holds the bands in place is broken.
3. It has no bands.
So basically it was a steal and I'm guessing I can put about $100 into it and make it into a damn nice gun. Now the tricky part, the questions!
1. What size shaft should I use and what diameter? I know I've heard someone recommending getting a Ray Odour shaft but will the shaft fit this specific type of gun? I don't free shaft because we're freediving the bays and less than 30' of water so I need one I can attach the leash to!
2. I've seen parts for the muzzle, but it has to be an EXACT fit so I'm kind of scared to buy a part and figure out it doesn't work. I'm new to this stuff, sorry guys. Where can I find a supplier I can speak to who can help tell me exactly what muzzle I need for it?
3. What diameter and what size bands should I use? It's a two band slot!
Sorry for asking so many questions, I just really want to get this right so I can go and try it out this weekend. Thanks in advance for any help!
Teh Wicked 09-19-2007, 09:35 AM You Need to measure the gun!!! This will help alot in the questions your asking. All the info im giving you could be wrong cause its not a 48" gun. I have a 48" gun so im basing my facts off my gun.
Now having said that, this is some info if the gun is infact a 48" Sea Hornet. Check the site im giving you to see if you can find the particular gun.
If its a 48" gun you will need to use a 54" shaft in 5/16 diameter. Ray can get you anything you need for that gun, and will help you select the correct shaft for your hunting needs.
Bands are easy, you can buy them about anywhere for $10 a piece. for a 48" gun you will prolly need a 22 or 24" band in 5/8 diameter which is one of the thicker ones to buy out of the package.
As for the Muzzle you can purchase what is called a Commerical muzzle which is kind of a pain to install but worth the hassle. It will greatly improve the accuracy of the gun and consistency of shots.
www.slinginsteel.com is prolly the people that made the gun. they have a nice selection of parts that will fit it. They do not sell directly to the public. you will have to goto Bill Jackson's, Aqautic Obsessions or Ray Odor to get there parts.
Cherokee Spear 09-19-2007, 10:08 AM It's a 48" gun, the model I'm not so sure of.. I've seen lots that look similar but none exact. The sticker on the gun says AB Biller Sea Hornet..
The type of trigger mech/handle it has on it is the Sea Hornet Classic.. It's a VERY basic looking handle and gun in general... I'm thinking it must be an older style because I can't find a picture of it. The line clip is on the bottom of the gun's barrel, in front of the handle/trigger and is simply a metal clip that it slides under. It looks like the Mahogany classic but the line doesn't wrap around the end of the handle, it slides into a metal clip.
I'll take a picture of it later so I can show everyone...
But either way, thanks for the suggestions.. I've already found the muzzle for it (on the page you showed me), the bands I wasn't worried about where to get them from but simply what size fit the gun best. So you've answered the majority of the questions, thanks a bunch for your help!
Relapse 09-19-2007, 11:14 AM Cherokee,
From butt to muzzle may not be the proper way to measure, eventhough that doesn't make sense. Send "Spearone" a PM and he can tell you exactly what to look for on the Hornets or AB Billers. He distributes the Hornets here in the US. He can answer ALL your questioins and get you fixed up with any work the gun may need. Unless you want let it go cheap to me.:redcard:
bgbill 09-19-2007, 11:24 AM The way Biller, Sea Hornet and Spearfishing Specialties spearguns are measured is by the size of the shaft they shoot.
I think the Spearfishing Specialties guns have a 2" longer butt section to allow for easier hip loading.
A 48" gun will shoot a 48" shaft
A 60" gun will shoot a 60" shaft
However to further confuse things a lot of people shoot Spearfishing Specialties guns like the 52" and 54" gun, but use 60" shafts in them.
Hardcore 09-19-2007, 11:28 AM No matter what model gun it is Spearone recommends about 13" of shaft overhang so just measure from the trigger to the muzzel & add 12"-14" to get the right shaft. That gun was built before Seahornet and biller spilt, The parts are sea hornet and can be bought at any spearfishing specialties dealer, The last muzzle I bought was like $15.

according to AB Billers website a 48" gun uses a 48" shaft, look at the link below.

Teh Wicked 09-19-2007, 05:52 PM standard 5/16 shaft is 54" long. If you use a 6mm hybrid it needs to be 48" and 2 24" bands in a 5/8" diameter is what bands you need.
