I am too cheap to buy crab meat for crab cakes, and too lazy to go catch my own :D So I use fish instead....
First off cut up a bunch of fish into small chunks maybe 1-2 inch cubes.
Then boil with old bay, garlic salt and whatever other spices you like.
While the fish is boiling chop up some green pepper, habenaro pepper(doesnt add as much heat as you think), onion, and garlic.
--hint--chop these ingredients as fine as possible, especially the garlic and habenaro pepper..
When the fish is finished boiling, strain and tear up the meat with fork untill it has a consistancy of crab meat. Then put in large bowl and add all the stuff you just chopped up. Add 1 egg, more old bay and other spices of your liking, and a generous helping mayonnaise. Then add bread crumbs untill you get a good cosistancy to make the "cakes". After all the cakes are made roll them in more bread crumbs and pan fry.
Heres a rough estimant of the ingredients...
3 cups of fish
1/2 green pepper
1/2 onion
1 habinaro pepper
5 cloves garlic
1/2-3/4 cup of mayo
and a can of breadcrumbs
Enjoy...this is one of my favorites
