Hi everyone, just moved to Miami Beach, 36th and Collins, about two weeks ago. Know of any dive spots around here (other than the jetty)? Thanks!

Best bet is to look online its pretty much public knowledge, make sure you have a float and flag.

I know off of 1st St...right by Nikki Beach, there are a few manmade structures. Look up "Jose Cuervo Bar" and hopefully you'll find the exact street address of where to find it.

There are a few artificial reefs there, but the vis is usually pretty bad due to the proximity of the inlet (government cut). Don't spear off the jetty, the jetty isn't long enough for spearing to be allowed and don't swim in front of the inlet. Back when I used to beach dive around there I was always approached by FWC while in the water, so make sure to have your fishing license with you. Also, spearguns are illegal on the beach so be aware of that when you are coming back onto the beach. We used to always swim out very early (before 7:30) to avoid lifeguards cause they will try to stop you if they see you, they don't arrive until 7:30 or 8AM. The only big fish that we ever spotted in that area are HUGE cudas that patrol the area and big tarpon but maybe you'll have better luck.

You're better off going up to Ft. Lauderdale to beach dive, I am sending you some info via PM.

Be careful no matter where you beach dive, the boat traffic in south florida is always heavy, so have your dive flag very visible (BTW, it needs to be at least 12" by 12").

if you don't mind the swim, off off hallover (think nude bch.) there are a few reefs that always have a few nice fish holding, just arrive before 9am to avoid lifeguards hassling you- although I will add i've never had any of them hassle me- to make it easier coordinate the dive with the tide...my 2 cents

IrieSpearo welcome to SP.

You must realize that there are many people who check out the forum but do not contribute anything and look at the information as a freebie. That's fine except when it comes to fishing locations, why to hell should they be given this information when in the end all it does is deplete the area for the rest of us? By posting detailed information that is exactly what we would be doing. Besides, IMO that's just not the kind of question you should expect to get an answer to. Ask any other question about gear, safety, regulations, but not where the fish are! Start participating/contributing, make some friends and get invited out. I never asked this of anyone when I joined the forum and until now still haven't. I paid my dues, so should everyone else. Someone should do a thread on this and sticky it for new or new to the area spearfishers.

Be careful on weekends as it can be like crossing no mans land swimming out and even worse swimming in. Always use a float and a flag, it's also the law.
