Alright I just got mine in the mail but I have shoot nothing but Riffe spearguns. I have a couple questions about this gun so who ever can help please do so. The 2 shafts that I got in with the gun look short but when I say short there is litle overhang on the shaft. Is is better to have more overhang like Riffe guns? Also the only slip tips that I have used are Riffe also and they are alot diffrent from the riffes I've been using. What my question is do you pull the slide ring down the shaft until all the cable is tight from the tip to the slide ring. Also no I am not new to this sport in case this is a dumb question to be asking.

I'm used to a little more overhang also, my Wong only has about 6" over. Let me know how you like yours after the first trip

More overhang is not better. Too much overhang destroys your accuracy. My super mag hybrid is the same way. With that much power, you need to have very little overhang for shaft support. Otherwise, when the bands release, you get a lot of shaft whip with big overhang. Other guns, like Riffe, are not powered as heavily, so they can get away with more overhang.

Take some practice shots with it. You may find it shooting high, but not because there's anything wrong with it. I think it will be because that's how you aimed with the Riffe. The Wongs (and most other custom guns) should hit what you aim at.

I'm not sure why the Riffe's have so much overhang. Why not just build more gun for the shaft, I mean, more gun gives more power (due to longer band stretch). I've seen some Riffes with 14"+ of overhang.

The Super mag hybrid is enclosed track (the wood part) so shaft whip should not be an issue. The shaft may protrude only about 3" from the muzzle, but you will need to add the 5" from the slip tip. So you should end up with close to 8" of overhang which should work nicely with such an elegant gun.

The Riffe Ice pick is a big hunk of metal where as most other slip tips are lighter and more streamlined in design. Most other makers strive to make a more streamlined tip.

Re: slide ring...Push the slide ring all the way up to the adaptor, then get some electrical tape and wrap it nice and tight on the shaft just below the slide ring. The reason I do this now is because I lost a nice fish due to the slide ring being jammed on a piece of skin. The slide ring was pushed to the end of the slip tip cable where the skin jammed it in place. My slip tip was rendered useless as my shaft has now become a long flopperless, barbless piece of steel. The fish took the initial run and the shaft just pulled right out. The tape would prevent this from happening.

The electrical tape behind the sleeve is right on. Also, you are tucking the slip-tip cable between the bands(after loaded) to ensure tip doesn't come off early. I have to have my second hand braced behind the gun to achieve its full potential when all 3 bands are loaded. The best comparison is when shooting rifles(high vs low power). I can get away with poor form with a 22cal, but you lay a 300 out there with variable support and you will get rise and variable shots.

I do not recommend laying the slip-tip line under the bands on any gun. I was having some accuracy issues when I did this. I then found out why. While changing my bands one day I noticed some deep gouges in the side of the muzzle. The crimp on the end of the anchor line had been hitting the muzzle causing the shaft to steer to the side where I was laying the line. It actually caused the tip to come off the shaft one time before hitting the fish!

What I do now is lay the tag line under the shooting line where it wraps under the muzzle. Another solution is to use a piece of pole spear rubber as a line keeper. I'll post some pics later and show you guys what I am talking about.
