I've been kind of embarrased to tell this story and decided, "What the hell."

So, there I was floating around some coral heads and at a 40 foot drop what do I see? About a 5 kg grouper taking off into a hole. So I take a few deep breaths and drop down towards the hole. I take a peek in with my gun and I see the grouper take off to the back of the hole. I see his tail sticking out of the back and figure there's nowhere for him to go. So it becomes a waiting game.

Well the grouper starts swimming his ass off in the back of the hole and starts raising up a dust storm. The visibility goes from real clear to crap. I'm starting to run a little low on air, so I lean in closer to the hole to get a better view. I can see the fish in front of me and I slowly take aim and fire. The spear flys in the hole, then I hear the distant "clank" of metal hitting rock. CRAP!! I missed the fish.

The next second the fish comes flying out from the back of the hole and Bitch Slaps me on the way out. Damn thing nearly knocked the mask off my face. I got a face full of tail. Ever happen to anyone or am I the first person to get Pimp Slapped by a fish?

Good story, felt like I was there. Never happened to me, yet :)

You think the grouper knows that raising the sand it becomes a harder target?

Joe so your not alone in embarrassment.

When I was out the other weekend I dove down to 40ft near a crack/cave. I had saw a bluefin trevelly go in and waited on him. To my suprise he came out the other side. It was at first one ok one, then the next one came out and was even bigger and I almost took a shot when an even bigger one came out and didnt realize I was there and almost kissed my spearpoint. So I nailed him in the head and it was the one hitter quiter. But cuz I had the only gun I can use at this spot, my 140, I had to bring it in close to me and when I shot it with 2 5/8 bands the recoil was so bad the butt came and smack me in the right eye. Once I came to I realized that i had stoned my fish yet a good size white tip was coming for a free mea. :D I dont think so :cool:

Here is another one. When Rob and I were tuna hunting Rob asked me to hold his good size doggie he shot. Well the guy wasnt dead yet and those huge sharp teeth got me in the cheek as I was bear hugging this fish to keep him from escaping. Those doggies are canibals and mean! I had 2 with mouths wide open come at me and Robs already shot tuna. That day was crazy!

LMAO I completely forgot about that day. When we got out of the water everybody was asking what happened to your face. I felt bad though that I didnt brain the tuna well enough that it bit your face.
