View Full Version : Poseidonsub guns on Okinawa
TEAM DTT 10-05-2007, 02:33 AM How many Poseidonsub guns do we have on Okinawa?
I have a 65" Euroflight on order that should hopefully be here for the tournament. I just saw that Breathlesssight has a 60" hybrid. CWW180 has a 55" hybrid. I think that Joel sold his (110cm?) EuroTeak before he left to someone on Okinawa. Are there any others here?
cww180 10-05-2007, 02:47 AM DTT,
I have a 50" Magnum Hybrid, and Jabroney has a 57.5 Magnum Hybrid that I saw yesterday that looked very nice.
Jabroney 10-05-2007, 03:06 AM Just got a 57.5 inch hybrid in the mail (bought it second-hand)
Choke Fish 10-05-2007, 03:22 AM Hmmm if I new this many people wanted a poseidon hybrid...
Ya I got that big ol magnum hybrid w/cf barrel. Used Once.
Jabroney 10-05-2007, 05:17 AM Don't like it?

I think CWW180 is wanting to get one of those.
Choke Fish 10-05-2007, 09:07 AM Its not that I dont like it. Its there is no need to have a gun that darn big around here. Its not like Im shooting 100+lb Yellowfin. But Dogtooth, well thats why I got it. Man, I love secrets!
Skinydiver 10-05-2007, 10:06 AM Poseidonsub guns look a lot like Wong's. Aside from the custom paint/camo that daryl does. What's the price/performance difference between the two? Seems like Wong is a little more expensive than it should be. Not to discredit the man or anything.
BS call in the morning on the home phone if you go out. I'll be sure to come with, if invited.
Choke Fish 10-05-2007, 12:34 PM Ya, looks like me you and rob. 8-830 I should be up. Im getting off work now.
Ill let you shoot the big gun at the tourney. :BoomSmilie_anim:
Skinydiver 10-05-2007, 08:48 PM Looks pretty nasty out there. Let me know what's up. I'm awake already.

Joel kept his gun.

Speareasy 10-07-2007, 11:59 AM Seems like Wong is a little more expensive than it should be.It's because of the Sheri Daye seal of approval..

Choke Fish 10-08-2007, 11:19 AM Man I thaught Sheri Daye is hott! I keep watching that part on Oceans in Actions where she is talking about Hawaii. She's all hyped about her first tuna ;)
Ya brownsuit, you said it. Godess of the sea!!!!!!!!

Gamble 10-08-2007, 08:30 PM LOL I am going to keep my mouth SHUT on this one.
Rigdvr 10-08-2007, 08:48 PM sounds like some testosterone driven tuna envy to me:whip: Sheri is a great person as well as a great diver. She has done nothing but good things for the sport.
As for Daryls guns, they are worth every penny:biggrinangelA: Brag all you want to on euro guns and the records, I'll I will say is MENS AND WOMENS YELLOWFIN TUNA RECORDS...:smnotworthy: they are more expensive than posiedon guns but those are starting to creep up as well. Making custom guns is expensive and none of those who do it make any real money at it when its all said and done.

Gamble 10-08-2007, 10:06 PM Of course they hold more records because Daryl makes sure any one going for a record has one. Let's keep marketing B.S. out of it. They are very nice well constructed guns no question about it but would take my Deathstick over one any day and pocket the extra $$$. There is a market for "pretty guns" that shoot well and Daryl has it dialed in. That does NOT make his guns any more capable of shooting or landing world record fish. If you want to spend an extra few hundred dollars for a nice epoxy finish more power to you. I keep my guns in the Garage because the stink like fish and teak oil. I hear if you own a Wong you must have a nice display case in the living room so your friends can drool;)
Rigdvr 10-08-2007, 10:45 PM Gamble, if only you knew what you are talking about:crazy: Daryl doesnt sponsor divers(just a couple). Riffe, Omer, RA so on and so on give more gear away to sponsor divers than Daryl could dream of doing. Oh yeah, you dont need a gun case in the living room...I have 5 Wongs and Aimrites and they all live in the shed, but that doesnt stop people from drooling:)
Speareasy, your backdoor jabs are nothing more than annoying. If youve got something to say just say it.
Lets not turn this into a Wong bash fest. There are many great guns out there, many far less than Daryls and many costing far more. To each their own. Its all about the fish at the end of the day. Daryl and Rick are top notch guys as all would agree but Ive never heard anything but praise for the Posiedon guns either, or most custom manufacturers. I guess he is the benchmark others are measured by which not only means he is turning out a great product but he is also a big target:BoomSmilie_anim:
Speareasy 10-08-2007, 10:59 PM Speareasy, your backdoor jabs are nothing more than annoying. If youve got something to say just say it.Alright I will. This is a nice looking speargun made by Daryl Wong although I don't understand what the black muzzle is for.

As far as those hi breed toy looking things with the cartoons on them, I think they're a joke. Yes I've shot one once.
P.S. the Aimrite handle is a joke too.

I do know what I'm talking, about,, trust me,, and was just expressing my opinion as you are. I was kidding about the case thing;) I know lots of guys that own and love their Wongs. I just don't see spending the extra $$ over what else is out there. I have nothing against Daryl or Rick at all. I am disappointed in the Aimrite handle I got a few months ago. The base is so thin that when you lay the gun flat on a table handle up you can flex the handle by pushing forward and back. It flexes so badly that it bows off the wood in the center and I can see where it is already starting to crack at the screw holes. I have heard that this problem has been fixed but this is a couple month old handle and it's the "new" model.
Again they build very nice guns, personally I think they cost to much for what you get IMHO.
Gamble 10-08-2007, 11:52 PM Guys let's discuss the guns and leave the personal crap out of it please.
Rigdvr 10-08-2007, 11:53 PM I apologize for hijacking this thread. It started as a nice one about great gun until spearnone comes over with a Sheri/Wong bash and nothing else to contribute.
If he think hybrids are a joke, why would he bother to post on a thread about Posidonsub hybrids?
Gamble 10-08-2007, 11:56 PM Let's get back on track,,, PLEASE!
Choke Fish 10-09-2007, 12:42 AM Getting back on track... Would that be the goddess of the sea or something about spearfishing?
Speareasy 10-09-2007, 12:43 AM Speareasy, your backdoor jabs are nothing more than annoying. If youve got something to say just say it.If he think hybrids are a joke, why would he bother to post on a thread about Posidonsub hybrids?I don't know, because you asked me to?

Both work for me!! Thanks.
TEAM DTT 10-09-2007, 12:47 AM I started this thread with a simple question that was answered days ago. Lets get back to the fighting about which gun is better. Here, I will throw out some gas and matches and you guys tell me if you agree or disagree.
Aside from the custom paint jobs, the Wong guns are basically a mass produced gun.
Gamble 10-09-2007, 12:49 AM I'm back to :whistle::whistle::whistle::D If it shoots strait and kills fish it's a good gun. I might have to agree to a certain extent. I don't think it's a mass produced gun but I do think it's a production gun to a degree.
TEAM DTT 10-09-2007, 01:02 AM From my experience I have observed that the most skilled spearo's require the least impressive guns. For example, I have a 120cm Riffe Euro with two upgraded 19mm bands and the upgraded 7.1mm shaft. It is by far the best reef gun on the island of Okinawa - basically equivalent to a top of the line Wong but half the price. I am constantly out classed by the by the better spearo's because of their skill, not their guns. Heck one guy here even shoots a Beuchat.
Gamble 10-09-2007, 01:05 AM I agree 100%, it's not what you shoot it's everything that leads up to you taking the shot!! Well said!!
Speareasy 10-09-2007, 01:08 AM I will offer my unsolicited take on pipe/wood combination guns. In one word, CHEAP! You have a piece of wood that doesn't need to bear a load so it doesn't have to be laminated. This saves all kinds of work besides the obvious gluing, such as selecting good wood in the first place and waiting for it to cure. Being wood it can house an American trigger mech. Then a pipe and a muzzle. Label it as "It swings more easily in the water" and to top it off with a pretty finish and your name on it. Wow! I'm a better spearfisher already!
Rigdvr 10-09-2007, 01:17 AM you must not have priced high quality carbon tubes lately;)
Ive got a feeling it would take more than a hybrid to make you a better spearfisher already:smnotworthy:
I agree that no gun can compensate for a lack of skill, which only comes from putting in your time in the sport.
TEAM DTT 10-09-2007, 01:30 AM CWW180 seemed to have a big improvement in his haul once he got his hybrid. His gun is relatively short too at only 50" with a mid-handle. He had been shooting longer guns prior to this.
Speareasy 10-09-2007, 01:39 AM Ive got a feeling it would take more than a hybrid to make you a better spearfisher already:smnotworthy:Dude, why are you incapable of stating your opinion about a speargun without demeaning the person of a different opinion. I happen to know freedive spearfishers who are much better than me and you who have the same idea as me about wood/pipe guns.
Gamble 10-09-2007, 01:47 AM I gave it a shot, if we can't act like adults this will continue.
