The Picasso Open was a great meet. I got to dive with Joe and Erik of the Fathomiers from Joe's boat. There were 2 divisions for people diving from boats and shore/kayaks. Kevin Sakuda and Austin Derry took 1st in the boat and kayak divisions, respectively. I liked the rules used for this meet. The premium was placed on variety, but only of good-quality gamefish. It reinforced how many of us would normally spearfish outside of a competitive situation. Roger Yazbeck of Picasso America provided plenty of food, drinks and snacks. The wetsuits and guns in the prize booth were picked right away by the top 3 finishers in each division. Regardless, I think everyone walked away with something, either from placing or the raffle. Even I got a 120cm Picasso Century gun for placing 5th. Roger , Vanessa and Greg were very gracious hosts, and I really hope they hold it again in So Cal next year.

I'm glad that you got a nice prize and a nice experience out of the tournament. What did you end up shooting?

Thanks Mike. The only reason I won anything was because a lot of good spearos, like John, Randy, Mark,..., had to work that day. I landed a cab, a calico and a sandy. The cab was nice-sized, but the calico and sandy were just a hair above the 14" minimum.
