Of course- that's the reason to have mods. If a thread goes astray, resorts to name calling, etc. mods will close it- ask the participants to start up an appropriate thread, take it to personal messages, etc.

They also have the power to modify posts, delete posts, and if necessary- to ban users.

Hopefully it doesn't get overused, because people will leave (which is how this site got started) due to 'admin abuse'.

I locked it because there was a lot of bitching and cussing back and forth on that post that I edited out. I asked everyone publicly and privately to PLEASE get back on topic and keep it clean and it didn't stop. I wasn't going to stay up all night and edit out all the high school stuff so I locked it.

I am all for people having spirited discussions but once it turns in personal jabs full of vulgar language it has to stop.

I hope this makes sense to everyone.

There are always going to be judgement calls that the mods have to make, and invariably someone isn't going to like it. The mods seem to be doing a decent job from what I can tell.
What are they supposed to do, take a poll of the general membership every time they think a thread needs to get closed? That makes no sense.

Other than "Goddess of the Sea", what did you have to contribute to the discussion Brownsuit???? The thread was way off topic and beginning to have personal attacks. Feel free to start a new thread on the spearguns, we will try to keep it on track as much as possible.

As soon as that thread took the turn to who’s pneumatic was better than their Wong it should've been moved from the Regional discussion to the Speargun discussion anyways. Then it turned into bashing each other and others who do not even post here which is completely uncalled for and disrespectful. IMO Gamble did the right thing...it's not hard to tell when the thread/discussion just needs to go away and I'm sure all you involved would agree. We're all here for a reason: To protect, promote and grow the sport of spearfishing AND having meaningful discussions regarding current conditions, gear, methods, techniques, regulations, etc. As soon as discussions breach those parameters and spiral downhill into a pissing match most likely it'll be locked or deleted.

Nobody seems to care when very rude comments are made about the president of the united states and he doesn't post here. If you put your face out there looking for recognition or as a marketing tool you are exposing yourself to public perception. Some will be positive and some will be negative even if it's for no other reason than jealousy. That's just the nature of the beast and as long as comments don't become distasteful it should be acceptable to make light of someone. Now if that someone shows up and becomes a part then it's a different story and one must be more political.

About the spearguns; how can someones opinion of a product be considered bashing, what is this communist Russia? If I don't like a product I will damn well say that I don't like it, that is not bashing. Bashing is someone that takes criticism of a product personally for whatever reasons and resorts to personal attacks to discredit the person with the negative opinion of the product. This is a forum and the idea of a forum is to give voice to a wide variety of opinions without favoritism to a certain manufacturer. The reader can then make up their own mind by following the reasoning that is closest to their own.

Its seems to many though that you like to argue just to be on the other side of the coin. Alot of it might just be lost in context due to the impersonal nature of the internet, at least I would hope so. If you dont have a personal axe to grind with Daryl, you seem awfully passionate about ripping into a product many like. You dont have to think its the right gun for you but to call it a "cheaply made toy" makes you look like an idiot and like someone looking for an argument. I do not care for Riffe guns at all. I have owned several in the past. They are definately NOT MY ideal gun, but I wouldnt stretch that out to saying that they are pieces of innaccurate crap. Once you get to a certain level, most guns are addequate but we all have our preferences.

I had a problem with the way you insinuated things about both Sheri and Daryl. Whats the point in all that? If you think Daryls guns are overpriced because Sheri has some form of influence over the market, thats just silly. And if you think any custom gun maker, whether it be Steve, Daryl, or any of the others, makes much at all off their products you are just wrong.

I might have crossed the line and got personal but then again it seems like you put yourself out there in that situation almost on purpose, which imho it wouldnt be the first time.

A couple of guys took it too far and hijacked the thread. Yes, voice your opinion, but try to show some respect for others opinion. It's usually not your opinion that pisses everyone off, it's the way you present it and refuse to consider any else's. The defense of simply stating your opinion is pretty thin considering some of the comments.

You not wanting to pay the money for a high end gun does not make that gun a cheap toy. When you say things like that you insult everyone that has dropped $700-$1000 for a Wong. If you don't like the gun, don't buy the gun.

Why does Wongs claim that the hybrid swings faster in the water bother you? I feel that my Wong hybrid swings much faster than my Deathstick. Part of it is the mid handle, part is the pipe. Is it a coincidence that Riffe now offers a Euro low profile gun to swing faster?

I thought I was being fair posting a pic of a wong gun that I like and comparing it to a wong gun that I don't like. I also stated my reasons pretty clearly. If that offends someone too bad. Many people criticize Riffe, I like riffe other than the handle, I have three so that makes over a $1000 that I dropped on them. Do I care if someone has a negative opinion on Riffe? If I don't like what they're saying about it I will mentally mark them as someone who's opinion is not of much weight to me and so it's easy to skip their posts in the future.

I never yet had a problem tracking a fish. Oh I forgot, that's because I rarely shoot the damn thing..

I think its pretty obvious where it went off track. Its when SpearEasy quit talking about guns and got in a slur at Sheri Daye.

I don't know her, but she has world records and he doen't.

She appears on a TV show that increases interest in our sport and he doesn't.

She organizes a big expo bringing together people from all sides of our sport and all geographic areas and he doesn't even attend, even though he is next door, for fear someone will find out what he looks like.

And of course she is good looking, but I don't know if he is or not. He wants to maintain privacy and never even shows a photo of himself with a fish for fear the IRS, or maybe the terrorists, will find him.

People that are small potatoes frequently try to bring their betters down to their level so as to compensate for feelings of inferiority. Its just too bad, but he is one of them. He is so damn effective at being nasty that he has run me off. I've gotten allergic to posting pics of dead fish. I feel it's disrespectful to them to take more away from them than they have given already (their life, for non Mensa types). In the future I may post a pic of an exceptionally sized dead fish if my vanity overcomes my sense of fair play.

As far as a report; I was at the beach Sunday, the seas were 3-5 and the vis was crap. I splashed around in my hammock (no wetsuit, for non Mensa types) and got a nice rash from some unforgiving sea micro organism.
