Just posting some pics from this past weekend. Reyton from TEAM L.Y.M. (Love You Man) made TEAM DTT promise to post pics and talk about how awesome he is. He really is awesome. Reyton, Breathless, and Keith totally devastated that spot. TEAM DTT was just picking off some stragglers in the shallows. The huge cooler box was packed with big fish and the pics do not do justice to the real size of the fish. The Keith's Akajin was just massive. Reyton shot a grocery-cart-full of every big variety to be found - Akajin, Makubu, Taman. It was a great dive with great guys. Thanks for letting me tag along.

Wow! Japan is beautiful! Reminds me of Cuba. Makes me want to go there. Is the language difficult to pick up? Nice fish but what's up with the parrot fish?

Nice fish guy's! Hope some are left for the tourney later this month. SpearEasy, parrot fish is great eating and highly regarded over here by the Japanese. I love parrot fish sashimi and it also makes a great ceviche.

Parrot fish... Its an islander thing :D I dont eat much fish, hence I like the freediving aspect more.

Breathless, I understand your cosmic orientation. Are they different tasting than our parrot fish?

No, I believe they are mostly of the same species. I know we might a have few that you dont have and vise versa.

I have an instinctive reluctance to catching and eating brightly colored fish. Of course it psychological in nature and if I were to eat it unknowingly I'd probably not know the difference.

Nice catch DTT. Anyone for the Karamas this weekend? I want to go there Saturday, and come back on the last fairy out on Sunday. Appearantly there's some good stuff at Zamami. A person who knows japanese fluently would be nice. hint, hint, DTT.

Ironic. When I was young I lived in North Lauderdale for 6 years and we used to go to a spot to feed manatees. There were gangs of massive parrots there that would fight for the bread we would throw them. No one ever seemed interested in eating them in FL. Now in Japan they are a bit of a delicacy. A big one can go for $40 or more on the market.

Heck even most of the poisonois fish are still edable. The lion fish is edible once the fins are cut off. The shocker is the stonefish which can go for $150 for a big one - they must be caught alive which is usually done by hand. My wife loves the rabbit fish which has somewhat poisonous spines.
I want to get a lion fish but I need to do some more research on how to prepare them. Those who have eaten them say they are very good.

Normally I would be very apt to go but my son has his undokai (sports day) on Saturday. I hope you are driving. The ferries to the keramas will confiscate your guns if they see them.

I do want to make another trip to Yoron this year. You do remember Yoron don't you???

Skiny, you might want to take a car so that you can hide your guns. Thats how we did it. Ill see you from the boat if you will be out there.

AHhhh, Yoron. I don't really remember. I was pretty smashed the whole time. haha. Of course I remember. That was probably my best spearfishing experience thus far. Thanks to the DTT and CW. Any time you're ready to go and you have an open seat, I'm with ya.

I'd love to get out to Yoron as well, but I think its more of a 72 or 96 trip for me. I'll be out on the backside of the Keramas this weekend as well as long as the weather holds. If not, I will do the ferry thing, I'll throw down for the vehicle fee as well. My cars no good for the ferry, big size and not alot of room.

I meant to bring this up after diving at Oku. Did anyone else feel like there were a lot of spearos out there? It seemed like every time I looked up I saw a different diver. (other than my dive buddy). There were only 6 of us out there that I know of, and I'm pretty sure I crossed paths with each of you while we were out there. I take that back, I never ran into the 11 year old parrot killer. Good job by the way on your first kill. The reason I'm bringing this up is because of the fact that we will have 23 divers in the water the day of the tournament. I feel like the reef is going to be like the case lot sale at the commissary the day of the tourney. Did anyone else get that feeling? I'm hoping that it won't be too bad, but I have a feeling that within the first hour the fish will be scared and acting skiddish. I think there needs to be a larger area to fish in. We need to think of a way to open the start point up and still be able to monitor use of kayaks and boats.

Oh, by the way would Oku be a great dive from a boat or a Kayak or what?

I guess the way the rules are set we just have to swim really far which is not practical for my dissabled self. I took a beating at Oku that day and we didnt even go far.

I was feeling the pain as well. That swim back against the current took a lot out of me. I managed to rub blisters from finning so much. That hasn't happened since I first got my foot pocket fins. What do you think about just swimming out somewhat far, and letting the current take you to a spot down the coast? Too dangerous? You might have a chance to land a Tuna or something doing that I would assume.

Could be some out there but I dont think the currents run right. But you never know.
I would say just swim out and away from everyone.

I agree dude. For 15 bucks, I'm just happy to receive a cool T-shirt that says I participated in the first annual okinawa spearfishing tournament. It would be nice to win some free gear, but like you said if it's meant to happen it will. If I get lucky and land something huge than so be it. If not there will only be a little bit of jealousy. ;). Hope the weather holds up. I'll be checking the wave report frequently. Since you're one with mother nature and all, why don't you just make it nice for us Breathless?
