spinal tap

I went out bug diving with my wife last night. Our plan was to dive the high tide. Since the swell was down I decided to take her to a spot that's normally not diveable. I told her that it could be sloppy but she was game. It is a short drive and the swim is also very short. We got to the spot and see 3 guys in the parking lot getting ready, so I tell my wife to hurry up to beat them to the water. Unfortunately she isn't use to her new suit so we were second in line or so I thought. When we got to the water I noticed that it was bigger than I thought it would be for the predicted swell size. It was still diveable.
I get in the water and within the first few kicks I noticed that I've lost power to my right fin. I'm very familiar with the sensation as it had happened to me about a week ago. Shining my light on the fin I see that it had snapped at exactly the same spot as the fiberglass fin. This is the replacement plastic fin that came with the 20 fathoms fins. I was so pissed that I just tore the fin off and threw it up onto the beach. My wife has a few dive/spearing goals this year and grabbing a legal lobster is one of them. So, I decided to continue heading out because I knew there was a good chance that she'd get at least a legal bug.
I find a likely spot and call her over after telling one of the guys from the parking lot that we're not his friends. We start seeing bugs immediately and soon we get into an area where the legals were out as well. She grabs three but they were all a tad small. Then she grabs her first legal and I put it in my bag. By this time my light is dimming quickly so all we have is her one light. She grabs a couple more that looked legal but when I go over to her there's no bug in hand. I later learn that they were too big for her to hold onto with one hand :banghead:. She was being too gentle with the lobster and they were able to wiggle free. I also witnessed her go for a couple really nice ones that I knew she'd flub because of her approach. It took a lot of self control to not swoop in on those bugs but being that it was her night, I let her do her thing and create her own memories.
Even though I would have taken a limit (even with one fin) if I had gone out by myself, and that we only ended the night with 2 bugs I had a great time with her. She is a great sport and even though she got sick in the water, she insisted on staying and getting her bug because we were seeing them and she really wanted to get one that night.
So with catching a legal bug checked off her list, it's on to the next goal...
