We drove by Oku last night for a night dive and the main entrance is still blocked off. I am going to go again Monday night to check and make sure the back way in is still open and to draw up some road directions so that everyone can find the back way in easily.
Being that the main way in is closed, this pretty much will have made Oku an un-fished beach for the entire summer. The fish will be VERY good, I can guarantee that. I just hope they did not block the other way in.

Does anyone want to ride with me up there Monday night? It kinda sucks driving that route alone. I may or may not hit a night dive too. I would like to head up there at 5 or 6PM.

Well, lets hope the weather holds up for us. Northern winds aren't a good thing for us.

Well it looks as if the winds and swells are getting worse up to 8.5ft. Here is an alternate plan, let me know if this works for everyone. We would still keep the same day and start time but extend the ending time to 1600. Everyone meet at Okuma Satuday the 20th by 0830 for the mandatory participants brief. The tournament will start at 0900, here is where it changes you can go wherever you want but you have to return to Okuma at our designated location by 1600. Still no Kayaks since everyone does not have one. Let me know what you guys think and we will go from there.

I think we should just have an alternate spot on the west side in the event that Oku is bad.

Edit: After looking at the weather report we should probably choose an alternate spot on the East and West side just in case.

CW, I think that's a good idea, the problem will be depending on everyone's honesty. That kinda gives the people who have been spearing here for a long time the advantage too. Those people with all those secret spots and all. Again. I get a T-shirt? Awesome!

I don't consider it an advantage it just means that they have put in time and nothing says that on this particular day and this particular time that there will be fish anywhere its all very subjective. I think that we will have to rely on integrity for the fish. There is always a way to cheat any system. I was looking at it as more of a get to know other spearo's than the hardcore competition aspect of it. I don't think there are too many places on the West side where we can park 20-30 Y plates and the stuff needed at the location as far as canopy/chairs etc.

With the amount of prizes that are out there, you'd be crazy not to feel the competitive vibe at the competition. With what Jim sent alone, that is enough, I'm sure, to have people do whatever it takes to win. Even if that means cheat the system. I'm not too worried about it, because I don't have any secret spots, and I don't own a Kayak either. Parking would definitely be better on Okuma than it would be on a beach where the Japanese can see all of us. But who cares if they see all of us. It's not illegal to congregate as Americans on Okinawa.

Maybe we should back it up a week...???? The weather at this point is not looking so great.

Of course I can feel the competitive vibe as I am very competitive person myself however, I think when this idea started it was more of a get together thing in mind more than a competition. I think we can and are going to achieve both. And we are definitely trying to make as little as a footprint as possible with the tournament. Pushing it back is a bad thing, one of the competitors is scheduled to leave here on the 25th, so if the weather permits it would be good to go ahead with this weekend.

Do it! I think it would be to all of our advantage, except Reyton. He is leaving I think.

When do you leave Reyton?

I think the meet at okuma or hedo and then go our seperate ways for a certain period of time would be best. About the cheating, were just going to have to put our trust in each other.

I depart on the 23oct............................yes it would be to your all advantage if you changed the tourney date, I wont be here to dive it.

LOL, (nah, dont take it deep, im just talking crap) if I miss the tourney no big deal, everybody will have fun. maybe you Skinner, might just pull off the greatest prize in the raffle.

Okuma will not be a good idea if any of the northern areas are bad / dangerous. Inexperienced divers in persuit of the largest fish may make the wrong desicion and choose to dive a location that is not safe. People are natually going to be attracted to Hedo point and that simply may not be safe on Saturday.
I will choose safety over abundance of fish.

first off sorry for the inside joke gone awry, some people. Anyway, I like the go our seperate ways Idea, and i trust everyone. The only aspect that I have a real strong opinion on is the meeting at the begining and the after party, Yeehaw:absolut::fish::toast::fro: Hell yah.

We will know more by tomorrow afternoon, the weather reports have lightened up a little and 2fishin2 is taking a drive up north tomorrow, so will definitely post something by tomorrow whether its going or is going to be postponed for 1 week.

I think the Okuma idea would work out great, as long as everyone kept their integrity. If the conditions worsen it would be smart to reschedule, strong currents and large swells can be life threating to some unexperienced divers. I'm looking forward to this tournament and would like nothing more for it to happen this weekend, but I don't want to see a fellow spearo put his or her life first for a competition. The for casted weather as of right now for Saturday is Drizzle. High 79F and low 72F. Winds NE at 25 to 30 mph. The west side might still look good, and I'm down for whatever, I just know there are better days on Okinawa then what this Saturday might have to offer.
