Several of these guys come down to Oki to hunt with me a couple times a year. One of those guys lives here on Oki and is a hardcore GT hunter. I think some of you guys have talked about him in other posts. He goes by NG, and he makes several trips a year to Ishigaki and Yonaguni for the really big GT.

I will be heading for Tokyo to enter their spearfishing contest on the 1st of November (BTW, the entry fee is 20,000yen + 10,000yen for the ferry from Tokyo to Izu Oshima, so i'm very happy with the $15 fee for our Oki tournament:smnotworthy:). The tournament is pole spears only, so it should be interesting. If you even bring a speargun to the island, you are automatically disqualified. I got my pole spear out and have been getting back in practice the last couple of weekends. Put many smaller fish in the cooler, but haven't had a chance to plug any big fish yet. My only concern is being able to stay in the water long enough to shoot a fish....the water temperature is apparently about 65 degrees:eek:

So your good with a pole spear also, why does that not surprise me:lol:. I`ve been eyeing the site it looks like a couple of the guys on there use guns but the rest use pole spears & appear to be real good:eek:. How many people show up for those tournaments? I would love to watch an all Japanese meet:circle:

This will be the first time going to this tournament, so I'll let you know how it was when I get back. I haven't been able to afford the trip in the past, but this year one of my friends is sponsoring me and has paid for my plane ticket with his mileage points. If I had to pay for plane, hotel, food, entry fee, ferry, the trip would be costing me over $800. That's alot of money for a local hire employee, paying half is paycheck to child support:banghead:
