View Full Version : I've gotta do it...Opinions USF vs Rutgers?
Grunt 10-18-2007, 01:29 PM I'm curious as to how other people feel. I believe USF has a strong team and should be able to beat Rutgers. However, after watching all of the top teams get knocked off in the last 2 weeks, it seems as if it's only a matter of time. It should be a good game regardless, GO BULLS!
Divin' fool 10-18-2007, 01:40 PM Things have been too good for USF.... Don't get me wrong, I like USF.....I may eat this one....but I call Rutgers.
NSEARCH 10-18-2007, 02:19 PM I hope they go undefeated and end up with a shot at the NC. If USF runs the tables, AND I HOPE THEY DO, it'll only be a matter of hours before you'll hear some SEC guy whine how they would have 3 losses in the SEC and that they don't have enough depth to week to week and their SOS was creme-puffs. <To some degree I'd have to side with that last one. Elon, FAU, and yes, I guess I'd have to add UCF with those>
Whatever happens I hope the Bulls win out. If Florida, LSU, CAL, USC, or Oklahoma think that they would win head to head, then they should support a playoff. No sour grapes, they made the rules, controlled the money, named the bowls, and selected the conferences.
Give the players and fans what they want.....a playoff system.

Non-USF fans out there should want them to go the distance for this reason if any. Unless of course you went to a school that is typically in the top ten anyway. The BCS is junk science. I would not be surprised to find that Ault wrote the code:D
GO BULLS!!
Leons_Bad_Side 10-18-2007, 02:45 PM I have no problem rooting for USF. Hey they have won their games and deserve to be where they are at. Do I think that they are better than UF or LSU, NO! But UF and LSU have both found a way to lose games this year. This evenings game should be interesting, at least to see how USF reacts to an offense that runs more than 4 basic plays. They have done pretty good against run oriented offenses, lets see how they do against a team that has a two sided offense. The respect for the SEC is evident in how far they drop after losses, especially to other SEC teams.
Spearchucker 10-18-2007, 04:07 PM UF has, for years and years, been pushing for a playoff system. Steve Spurrier was pushing for it back in '90. Fact of the matter, the playoff system would favor the SEC, because good teams are regularly knockd out of contention bcuase they play each other during the season, and 1 loss usually, 2 losses definetly, take you out of consideration for the NC. A playoff system would give 2 loss teams a shot.
Leons_Bad_Side 10-18-2007, 04:16 PM I agree spearchucker. With a playoff in place I believe UF would have won more championships. Everyone knows the SEC is the top conf. Especially after last years trouncing. That doesn't mean that they don't have down years. Just that they consistently have better players and better competition. I'm a UF fan and I was starting to feel sorry for OSU last year. I think that the next few years look very promising for Gator fans. But tonight...Lets Go Bulls!
Dive4Blood 10-18-2007, 04:30 PM Whoever shows up ready to play 60 minutes of football, sticks to their game plan, excecutes their plays, dominates the line of scrimmage, and scores more points than the other team will win........it's a lock. You guys are lucky to have access to my in depth game analysis. Can I have a job as a talking head in a five button suit with any of the 100 ESPN networks?

You would have to add a comment about how it's a fluke and USF shouldn't be there anyway for that job.
Leons_Bad_Side 10-18-2007, 08:11 PM From what I have read of your tales D4B you would fit right in with any of the pre game shows I've seen.

Yeah, somewhere roughly between Dennis Miller and John Madden:iagree:
Spearchucker 10-18-2007, 09:42 PM 10-10 so far
Rutgers game plan is pretty simple - a whole lotta Ray Rice. Can USF stop him?
Spearchucker 10-18-2007, 11:47 PM Wow, I wonder what Rutgers next play will be? Ray Rice - left this time?
Grunt 10-19-2007, 12:41 AM Very depressing...All USF had to do was stop one guy. What a poorly played game by USF. That's going to put a huge damper on the season.
junior 10-19-2007, 12:48 AM USF did not show up to win. Rutgers played good defense against an offense that never got it together. It's the RAY RICE show dummie:slap: And, how the hell did they call that an illegal forward pass? Oh well, looks like a Friday hangover...
Grunt 10-19-2007, 12:50 AM USF did not show up to win...And, how the hell did they call that an illegal forward pass?
Agreed...and I don't even want to get started on that call. That's the beauty of home field advantage.
Divin' fool 10-19-2007, 09:55 AM Saw this one coming.... like has been stated.... let ANY team play an SEC schedule and survive with no losses... then you got my vote for national champ.
NSEARCH 10-19-2007, 11:22 AM I can feel the bodies falling off the bandwagon. :circle:

Oh, for God's sakes, take it like a man Doug and no bullshit excuses. Rutgers laid out a blueprint for stopping Grothe in the 2nd half. Man covereage on the receivers and bring the house. They had 7 sacks, most in the 2nd half. Grothe got a few runs and a few passes off, but they did a great job of bottling him up. Expect every team you play for the rest of the year to BLITZ BLITZ BLITZ all game long. You can bet your ass they will study yesterdays film.
Ray Rice was not running through gaping holes, he was dragging USF defenders down the field. That little shit is STRONG.
Marcus 10-19-2007, 02:40 PM How about that BS pass interference call at the end of the game. There was NO pushing involved. That would've put them in field goad distance.

He's skrait skrong as one color announcer so eloquently stated:D
I agree with everything you say John. Grothe looked lost for a good bit of the second half. No excuses here, but you must admit that that call was BS. Hopefully, USF can still pull out the Big East title. I'm sure that the blitz situation was addressed on the plane ride home. Whether they can do anything about it...we'll see. Grothe up the middle???
Spearchucker 10-19-2007, 03:03 PM There were several blown calls. Rutgers got tagged for a holding call that was BS. They also got that celebrating in the endzone, which was also BS.

You want to blame anyone, blame the Big 10 commissioner. Seriously, he is the main reason that a playoff system will not happen. He negotiated a helluva deal for the Big 10 years ago as part of getting the Rose Bowl signed up as part of the BCS. He has no intention of letting it end and has made his intentions of blocking a playoff system very well-known.
WonderBoy 10-22-2007, 12:25 PM There were several blown calls. Rutgers got tagged for a holding call that was BS. They also got that celebrating in the endzone, which was also BS.
The celebration call wasn't BS, and I'm a USF fan. It wasn't the chest bump or the group celebration that drew the flag. It was when he put his finger to his mouth to *shush* the crowd. That's gonna draw a flag every time.
The holding call was BS, but so was that push off!
Personally, I think we should investigate to see if Grothe was on the take! He didn't scramble for crap the whole second half! Everytime he got pressure, he went down and NEVER got rid of the ball. He also didn't have the running plays called that he normally does. I blame the coach for that.
Spearchucker 10-22-2007, 12:30 PM Sean - Now you are just whining.
And for the record, the "shhhhh" thing with the finger to the mouth is not called very frequently. Tim Tebow did a similar one, where he went to the stands and put his hand to his ear like a phone and mouthed "call me". No call there (it was against LSU)
Get ready for the bulls to drop more. That computer is going to be your undoing, because as you finish your season with unranked patsies, everyone else is playing ranked teams. Strength of schedule is going to start kicking your ass. Uconn this weekend????

Seriously dude, is it biologically possible for you to say ANYTHING that can be interpreted as postive about USF, or does any team that may remotely grab a sliver of the spotlight away from the Gators prevent you from doing so? The Bulls have to finish their five remaining games with fellow Big East opponents....they can only play the teams that are the schedule. UConn this Saturday is 6-1, and Cincinnati the following week is 6-2 neither of which can hardly be called patsies.
Regardless of what happens, this year will be considered a success and a huge step forward for a football program that has improved measurably with each season. In 2001 they made the jump to Division 1, in 2005 the Bulls went to their first bowl game, in 2006 they won they first bowl game, and in 2007 they cracked the Top Ten and will probably play in their third consecutive and hopefully win their second consecutive bowl game. Realize that twelve years ago this football program did not exist.
Won't you feel better if you just go out and just publicly proclaim your Tim Tebow man-crush for all to read ?

Come on AJ, don't get your panties in a wad. I will go back to what I have been saying all along - NOTHING is decided in September or October. Last year at this time, Ohio State was being lauded as the greatest football team EVER, and Michigan was a close second. They were both crushed in their bowl games. Hell, OSU is only #1 because, once again, they have loaded their schedule with lightweights.
We are still four weeks away from having any idea what the final top 10 will look like, and USF's SOS is going to hurt them.
Now back to USF's opponents, Uconn is not in the AP top 25 (but they have 26 votes), and neither is Cincinnati (a whopping 1 vote). If you beat these teams, they will have NO votes, if you don't, well hell, that is a moot point. I have no idea who Uconn plays or whom they lost to, but Cincinnati lost both their games to unranked opponents.
It is commendable what USF has done, but I would hardly call it unheard of, considering Boise State did pretty much the same thing last year. In this dy of parity, with only 85 scholarships for a school to give out (compared to 140 in the 70's), the talent is much more evenly divided.
Phermes 10-22-2007, 05:18 PM I love Tim Tebow.
Man, I feel better.
Phermes 10-22-2007, 05:29 PM Seriously, if the rest of USF's schedule is weak, they could pound all of them and still drop.
Look at USC this past weekend. They beat Notre Dame 38-0, and got rewarded for it by being jumped by Arizona State in the BCS standings - and Arizona State did not even play.
My guess - USF will run the table and land themselves in a very respectable bowl game, quite possibly a BCS bowl. Their NC aspirations are over, though.
As a sidenote, I've seen some absurdly early bowl predictions, and a couple of them show a UF/USF Sugar Bowl. Wouldn't that be the shit? I wonder who would be favored? :)

Hmm, No comment....
junior 01-01-2008, 02:30 PM They got outplayed and they looked slow and rusty. That's about all there is to say don't ya think?
