I don't know anybody up that way but I do know that grabbing lobster by hand in ME or NH is a big no-no. Too bad you're not down the RI way. Could put you on some big striped bass.

Oh, and the water up there is f'n COLD!

by no-no do you mean it illegal?

ya i know its cold. same time last year i was using a sling and shooting small flounder in some small tidal flow to pass the time. saw a couple of bass.

when you first hit the water it takes your breath away.

That's right. Lobster can only be harvested by Maine residents using traps. They're really strict from what I hear.

Look in the "Methods of fishing" section in this link:
http://www.maine.gov/dmr/bmp/noncomlob.htm

NH is similar except they allow non-residents to harvest using traps.
See sheet 7 (page 12) of this link:

Hello guys
I was interested reading you because I'll also be a bit south of Ogunquit (York Harbor) from 16th to 23rd of this month (after a week at Cape Cod). It also will be a first time for me up there. Conditions remind me of my French Brittany coast, except that there fish might be a little smaller... but mostly all allowed everywhere in France !
It's hard for a new comer to get used with everchanging regs. I was glad that no saltwater licenses were required for Mass and Maine... just to read that I won't be able to shoot exactly what I was interested in : striped and lobsters. However I'll pick some info about lobster permits in ME.

That excepted, can anyone tell me what I can expect to meet under these waters ? Some togs and flounders I suppose, and ?

:iagree: just like Keyskiller, I'm interested in participating in a boat trip expenses. Let me just say that we will be 2 Frenchies there, as a friend of mine has currently crossed the Atlantic for a visit. It's always better, mostly for a first time, to be guided by someone knowing the place instead of getting wet at the wrong place and the wrong time (or shooting the wrong fish...).

Sorry if I interrupt anything here for my own benefit. I'll be happy just to read some more info here and there.

Taking lobsters in Maine or New Hampshire is very ILLEGAL! If caught you will be executed then given a fair trial.
Your best bet is to drive down to Rye, NH and dive from shore for bass.
Don Stevens at Altantic Aqua Sports in Rye is a good resource.

Good luck

Thanks for the warning. I'll stay away from the bugs then (I suppose it also applies to all other sorts of crabs ... ?)
I hope I will find something else legal under these waters, however, at least for the bbq parties we intended to have !

I'll follow the advice for striped bass and head back down to NH once or twice. You say the Rye Harbor area is good for that ?

Does anybody know about any license in NH for saltwater ? Thanks.
