Okay, so here goes. when you shoot your powerhead, do you let your shaft leave the gun completely or do keep the shaft in the track? Does it depend on the type or are they all used the same?

You shoot at what ever you want the powerhead to hit just like you normally would. With PPD's you typically have limited range so take shots within 10ft if possible.

Aim a little higher to compensate for the weight of the powerhead. Don't forget to pull the safety...fish won't give your powerhead back if it doesn't detonate.

The above is good advice, I have also heard if you are using a slip on PPD it is most likely gonna fall off of the shaft after firing,...so after you clean out your wetsuit don't forget to look around for it,...I hope I never have to find out,...........

Question, I have a 30/30 powerhead I found on veterans reef off clearwater (sorry to the guy who lost it) cleaned it up and now it is part of my gear - never had to use it yet. What exactly is a PPD ? Are you refering to powerheads ?

Both styles are considered Personal Protection Devices and they have basicly the same concept and results,.. a slip on PPD uses the spear tip to act as the firing pin, its armed when you slip it on the tip, disarmed when you slip it off,

To keep the slip on kind from coming off your shaft make a groove in the PPD and the make a small teather with a loop and put the loop over you barb and you will not loose the PPd after it is shot...
