View Full Version : Pole Spearing
Skinydiver 10-21-2007, 09:58 AM So I got a new single prong tip for my pole spear, and took it out with me today. As usual I had my speargun with me for protection only. It wasn't used to kill fish. Only my nice pole spear with single prong and Hawaiian flopper on it. This thing is pretty nice. I don't know why I ever thought about using a spear gun.
joelovesfishin 10-21-2007, 10:03 AM NIIIIIICCCCCEEEE!!! What's wrong with the guys tail. He must have been a midget.

Skinydiver 10-21-2007, 10:07 AM I ended up meeting up with "steelhed" and his buddy, inadvertently, and we went to their new spot. NICE! Good people.

That one Roi does have a shorter tail than usual. haha. I thought you were talking about the shot through the tail at first. I kinda sewed that one. Shot him in the face and the tail. Good stuff. He was pissed cause he couldn't move at all.

It was fun though. i think that was the last dive a 1.5 will be sufficient for.
jimdoe2you 10-21-2007, 11:40 AM Watchout Kevin, ...............it looks like Jeremy is going to be gunning for you at the tourney!!! :bringiton:
I guess I should start boxing up the grand prize in his size then?
:D
FGCdiver 10-21-2007, 11:46 AM What type of spear were you using?
TEAM DTT 10-21-2007, 05:21 PM That looks like a tahitian flopper!!
Finbreaker 10-21-2007, 10:02 PM Nice job on the fish. I took the weekend off because I thought the whole island was blown out, but my buddy went East and said it was O.K. and I think Parker went south, although not sure where. How big was the GT?
Finbreaker 10-21-2007, 10:04 PM Are you guys just taking pole spears out with you in case the mafia stops you or is anyone actually using one? I think I am going to start with mine since I paid 140 bucks for it and haven't gotten it wet yet!

Maybe 15lbs. I guess my buddy had a 50+lb GT come up behind him, then take off when he spun around. I did see a cubera that was over 50lbs, I thought it was a huge grouper at first, freakin monster. Saw 1 dogtooth but it disappeared when I started my dive. Stoned a 20lb parrot also. If I were in the tourney it would have been a good day.

20lb parrot? I think Jim should have sent scales for you and skinners as prizes in the tourney...
Next time you see one of those so called cuberas I dare you to eat it :D
"Cubera" Sashimi = :birthday:
Skinydiver 10-22-2007, 05:41 AM What are you trying to say? Am I that shitty at making estimations of fish size? haha You should have seen the sting ray I saw today, it was the size of my prelude.
Skinydiver 10-22-2007, 06:36 AM I got video of the "Prelude under water" Check it out.

Damn yo! I saw ones of them but bigger when we shot the doggies. Rob tried to ride it and it just laughed at him.
steelhed 10-22-2007, 07:46 AM cool, those always startle me when I see em, first thing I think is big shark.

I have a degree in fisheries and have been weighing fish from 100 to the ounce up to 70lb, almost everyday for 2 years before i came in. So my weight guestimation skills are pretty damn good.:moon: When I get the pic up you'll see, it was a hog. i really do want that scale though, Parker has one and its really nice. I'd shoot one of those monster cubera for a print but thats it.

Hahahaha, ............I did send a scale!!!!! It is one of the raffle prizes!!!
(I did it as a safe guard incase you guys had your first tourney and no one brought a freakin scale :slap:)
:D

I can honestly say the only time I have ever wieghed a fish was that last doggie I shot only cuz everyone wanted to know who's was bigger. I tried one time on a regular stand on scale and subtracted the difference.
So good on you Jim!
steelhed 10-22-2007, 01:08 PM Sweet! Heres a few pics of the weekends kills with a sharpened stick!
joelovesfishin 10-22-2007, 08:29 PM That's some great looking sashimi. What type of fish was it?

Rainbow runner, it was so good.
UltimateDepth 10-22-2007, 09:33 PM Nice catch. There was a crap load of those rainbow runners out that day. I'm surprised I didn't get one. Hopefully the next time I go out I can hit something. Thanks for bringing Skiny and I out to your new spot, it was sweet.
joelovesfishin 10-22-2007, 09:38 PM Rainbow runner, it was so good.
I catch those all time H&L and have never tried it sashimi. Was it "really" good or was it good just because you shot it?
steelhed 10-23-2007, 05:43 AM It really was great sashimi, very similar to maguro, soft and deliscious. Yeah it was a good time with you guys. My partner left so Im all alone now and need people to go out with every weekend, so keep me in mind will yah. Just dont try and take my spot for the comp :nono:or I will kill you!:chuck: jk.:toast: You guys camping on friday night? I think I will.
