View Full Version : Where to buy slide ring for slip tip Noah 10-23-2007, 04:02 PM I just want the slide ring(Alexander style) for a 5/16 shaft, does anyone sell these seperately? Noah 10-23-2007, 04:38 PM Thanks Mr. Bill, I'm trying to make a kevlar leashed slip tip out of a Ray Odor fish buster tip. For $30 + slider(unless the slide ring is $60:D) I can afford to use them around the rocks;) kjflyfish 10-24-2007, 05:10 AM Steve Alexanders....... $8.00 http://mywebpage.netscape.com/stevealexanders/index.html http://mywebpage.netscape.com/stevealexanders/slide_rings.html Noah 10-24-2007, 10:03 AM Yep, Mori just got back to me and his are $8 too, which one would be better for a kevlar setup? Blake Schaff 10-24-2007, 10:15 AM Yep, Mori just got back to me and his are $8 too, which one would be better for a kevlar setup? It probably doesn't matter, but Mori makes tips designed for use with spectra. Alexander doesn't. kjflyfish 10-24-2007, 03:29 PM The slide rings are exacly the same - the actual tips are desinged differently for use with a spectra or cable. It suprises me that folks often ask about buying "Alexanders style" gear and don't go to the man himself - no offense to Mori whatsoever. Perhaps I'm mistaken, but I didn't think the man himself was interested in shipping small parts. Also, he might be out of town pursuing his other hobby, butterfly collecting, and may not respond to your inquiry. Mori himself credits Steve with teaching him most of what he knows, but he has learned well, and seems a lot easier to deal with. stevemc1 10-24-2007, 04:38 PM Cant you just cut the cable on Rays tip and use thin Spectra instead? That would work. Noah 10-24-2007, 04:45 PM It'd be hard to secure the tip for one, there's no o-ring to hold it on. Secondly I'm trying to make it hydrodynamic like the "fancy" slip tips. All thoughts are welcome though! kjflyfish 10-25-2007, 02:02 AM Perhaps I'm mistaken, but I didn't think the man himself was interested in shipping small parts. Mori himself credits Steve with teaching him most of what he knows, but he has learned well, and seems a lot easier to deal with. True, true. Mori was great to deal with when I bought some stuff, but just for the record I've never had any problems with Steve. As for the tip conversion, you still have to splice a loop of spectra through the Ray Odor tip regardless of the slide ring setup. In my experience, the spectra on the "fancy" tips is subject to abrasion if it hits sharp bones - even with the very low exit angle. It seems that having the spectra exiting the tip at 90 degrees on both sides would exacerbate the problem. You might end up having to replace the spectra often. Just a thought. |
