Attached is advice by a medical doctor currently serving in the House of Representatives on the direction we as a nation need to go in order to fix the approaching disaster in our health care industry. He also happens to be my hero.

My doctor and I actually had this conversation about a year ago. She had mentioned that if everyone just paid cash she could get away with charging $50 per visit rather than the 110 she charges if you don't have insurance. She said the money goes towards staffing to file claims with the Insurance companies.
Sad.
She said she'd rather see me once a year and deal with me individually and know that I have emergency coverage then to deal with me 2-3 times a year and deal with the insurance companies.
Another crazy statistic she offered me was that in 13 years of practice she hasn't earned a penny more than she did when she first started. Insurance companies hound her office for every penny they can get and often refute or deny coverage for certain treatments. She's a diver and she doesn't make me turn my head and cough, so she's cool with me.
Insurance companies are killing the general practice.
Specialists are getting kicked in the ass too. But atleast they can order 9 Xrays instead of 2 and make ends meet.

The federal government and a lot of politicians certainly want you to believe this half-truth at face value. Yes, the insurance companies are, in part, killing healthcare in the US, but only because they are parroting what the federal government has been doing for years. I am not in a position to debate this issue I'm not educated enough nor do I pretend to know all the facts. I was simply passing along my minute knowledge on the issue which I basically repeated verbatim from what my doctor told me.
Whether it is true or not I haven't the fondest idea. I'd rather pay my doctor 50 dollars once or twice a year than 400 a month. I'm 26, I have Perfect blood and I'm in optimum health. I'd hate to see what someone with cancer would have to pay for insurance. I do get to see a doctor for $10 and a specialist for $20. Free xrays and MRIs but how often do I use those?

I really hope that noone out there is so naive as to think that the insurance companies have your best interest at stake. While there may be some flaws with government services why would anyone think that private insurance companies treat anyone better.

Like any government agency has a track record of serving it's constituency well.Isn't the VA system administered by our fair-haired bureaucrats?

And Lawyers....where do those parasites fit into the equation?

And what about the conditioned response of your average American to expect near hospitalization for a sneeze?

No,as much as I like a lot of his ideas there is little or no chance of fixing American Medicine. It will likely only get worse as tort reform actually puts limits on what lawyers get to try a case vs. the unlimited budget of the insurance attorneys.Compound this with increased regulation and attempts at income redistribution through medical vote buyoffs and we the producers are screwed.

They most certainly do not have your best interests at stake. I don't think anyone believes differently. My point is that the federal government is just as culpable, even though many politicians and pundits claim otherwise.

Yes, unfortunately the Federal Government is in bed with the insurance companies. After all, they can pay to play.

It doesn't help that everyone and their mother are running around trying to sue everyone, especially Dr.'s for malpractice and other idiotic things... I'm not saying that there aren't good and legit cases but come on, people are getting ridiculous..
