Say you shoot a potentially record breaking fish, how/who do you get a hold of to legitimize it? Or does it have to be in a tournament to count?

View Full Version : How do you qualify a record fish? Noah 10-24-2007, 09:59 AM Say you shoot a potentially record breaking fish, how/who do you get a hold of to legitimize it? Or does it have to be in a tournament to count? kitefisherman 10-24-2007, 10:04 AM There are two record keeping organizations for freedive spearfishing - each with their own procedures: IBSRC: http://freedive.net/ibsrc/ IUSA: http://iusarecords.com/ Information and rules for submitting records are on these above websites. Noah 10-24-2007, 12:02 PM Thanks John, now I just gotta shoot the fish;) Bill McIntyre 10-24-2007, 01:40 PM Thanks John, now I just gotta shoot the fish;) And move your thread to a different forum. I'm not aware of any organizations that keep records for SCUBA spearfishing. But if there are any, they won't keep WORLD records since most of the world doesn't even permit it, much less honor records. I'm not trying to rekindle the flames, but just stating fact. junior 10-24-2007, 02:06 PM I don't think I caught where Noah said he was a scuba diver. Noah 10-24-2007, 02:11 PM Yeah, sorry Mr. Bill, I didn't know where else to post the question and I am talking about freediving. Thanks again for the Mori link! gogators27 10-24-2007, 02:20 PM yes, you have to know the rules before you shoot the fish or there is a big chance you will disqualify yourself. Also, finding a scale can be a problem as well if it is a really large fish. Noah 10-24-2007, 02:24 PM Where is a scale on Florida's west coast, who would you contact? Bill McIntyre 10-24-2007, 02:56 PM I don't think I caught where Noah said he was a scuba diver. I didn't catch it either. But this forum is titled "Scuba Spearfishing World Records" so that just might indicate he was talking about scuba. But maybe that's just me who reads the titles of the forums. Apex 10-24-2007, 03:52 PM Where is a scale on Florida's west coast, who would you contact? Any certified scale works. That means scales at the grocery store (butchers or seafood counter scale) work. Also you can contact bait and tackle stores as most have certified scales on the premises. If none of this works you can certify your own scale or buy scales that are certified. Certification runs out so you can have them re-certified or calibrated after the term of certification runs out. In outlying or very rural settings having your own is usually the best way to go if you have serious desire to set records and have them recognized. Noah 10-24-2007, 05:13 PM I can see the expression on the bag boy's face as I bring a 130# AJ in the front door at Publix, leaving a slime trail all the way to the meat section junior 10-24-2007, 05:15 PM I didn't catch it either. But this forum is titled "Scuba Spearfishing World Records" so that just might indicate he was talking about scuba. But maybe that's just me who reads the titles of the forums. Somebody must have changed the name of the forum... BossHog 12-27-2007, 04:42 PM There is a cetrified scale at Don's Dock South ( Located in Johns Pass, next to gators). ask for Butch.... He is cool and will help out in anyway shape or form. Saltstalker 10-24-2008, 10:13 PM Also farmers and ranchers sell off of cert. scales and most large opperations have them on prem. My dad runs a good size ranch and if you ever needed to weigh a 10,000# fish he could do it on cert. scales for you. seriousley a lot of packing houses and meet markets/sloughter houses have large cert. scales |
