what are your opinions of this gun?
JBL Mini-Carbine
Life Raft
Speargun
do you think its work the 50 something bucks givin its range is 6 ft? in NC the vis is usaully bad anyways and for shore dives and such it seems that would be all you need.
what do yall think?
thanks

Vis in NC can be 80+ feet. But if you mean shore diving, vis sucks everywhere.
I wouldn't bother with any of those. Get something like a 38 special jbl or bigger.

I got that JBL, its range and power is very limited. I wouldnt dare shoot anything voer 10lbs with it and you better be a good shot too! O have shot Sheepshead with mine and not punched through them and I was within 2 ft of them.
Other than that, it works GREAT for low vix situation on small game. Other wise I would recommend the bigger JBL which is 31" I believe and has 2 bands.

JBL have all kinds of sizes- http://jblspearguns.com
Next up from the 38 is the sawed-off magnum, then the magnum.

They work, Need trigger maintence and lube every now and then. I got one and Gixxer owns 2. They are working well and we beat the piss outta them on a pretty regular basis.

What are you shooting? Sheepshead? Try a euro gun like a cressi comanche in 90-100cm for $40 more. Thinner shaft and can handle stronger bands.

I owned a JBL carbine, (next size up from the mini carbine.) What I found is that the trigger was very hard to pull, and accuracy was poor due to the overall design. If you just go one step up, to the JBL Explorer line, you only pay a few more dollars but the quality is much higer. If you want to stay with JBL, I'd seriously consider one of the little Magnums, like the magnum custom or the 38 Special NW. I've hunted with the 38 NW and it's lightyears ahead of my old carbine.

Id say, get yourself a sporasub black vyper 70-90cm from scubastore.com and put an old style rob allen muzzle, and shaft on it. Ive had the JBLs and the spora is a much better choice. I,ve heard some old salts say the biggest mistake most begginers make is getting a gun that is too short because of a notion of it being easier to load, IMHO this is more dependent on how short the bands are, and it can be changed easy. get something you can grow into not out of. for an idea of a fish gotten w/ this set up. a Hope it helps

I have a 90cm black viper and it's a good gun. I also have a 75cm aspic that was a good gun until I broke the line release. The problem with both models is that Sporasub no longer makes them. You can still find them around, (although I couldn't find it on scubastore's website). Now I can't replace the line release on the aspic, so its just scrap. What I've decided after buying those guns, then buying another shaft and another muzzle, is that I'd rather just buy a Rob Allen or Evolution in the first place. Works out to about the same amount of money.
One thing I've learned here in NorCal is that if you need a short gun, you need a short gun, and a 90cm euro is pretty long for bad vis. In fact, I think my next pipe gun is gonna be a little 60cm gun for dirty water and holes.
Seems like whatever you buy as your first gun, it won't be your last...
