View Full Version : question about dodge 3500 dually diesel 5.9

Im looking at the Dodge 3500 4x4 diesel with manual transmission, anywhere from 2005 to 2008 models.. most have around 150,000 miles.. just wondering if anyone has this model/engine combo and if they have had any problems.. to my knowledge the cummings is one of the best diesels.. but I hear that the dashboard on dodge trucks has problems with crackiing. is this true?? seems strange also that almost every truck I have been looking at has about the same mileage, almost like they have problems at that point?? dont know what to think.. any info appreciated.. its a great looking truck and should pull my boat good... also looking at the gmc duramax/allison trucks.. cost more though for older models...

When I got my '06 3500 with the 5.9 my dad, who had been in the used car biz forever, chastized me about getting the Dodge over a Ford. He later got an '04 with the manual transmission. He told he was wrong and loves his Dodge.

I just paid off the dually and have no desire to sell it with the 120k miles on it.

4the3 has a 3500 also.

On my third 2500 w/ Cummins and manual trans. I order mine new from factory, wait 2 months, keep them for 300,000 miles, then repeat. Drive trains have been great, A/C has given me trouble on all 3. Enough power to pull anything without modifying! My 1999 dash cracked only after having the A/C repaired. The 5.9 got better millage than my new 6.7, too many emission things I guess. I'm pretty easy on trucks and average 90,000 miles on tires. I also have Jake brakes installed on them.

Hope this helps, Steve

You can get a molded dash cover for about 225 and never no the difference or get a cover prior to cracking didn't on my 02 did on my 06 great trucks and pull the best

I have had two 2500s love them you might check out the 3500 with a single rear tire instead of dualies. The 2500 and 3500 are the same except for the suspension is heavier on 3500. Both of mine have been manual Trannys a 5 speed 91 and then 2003 was a 6 speed over 20 MPG bare truck with a boat and cabover camper 55 MPH i get 17 MPG. Next one will be a Dodge.

I have 2003 Dodge 1500 gas hemi /auto, and dash cracked all over, but it is kept outside always. Other than that nothing bad.

Only thing bad about new dually dodge is the one piece all fiberglass rear fenders a small oops turns into ugly problem I think they started that on 2012

search cummins forum. there is a ton of information on any cummins model year. I thought that i would chime in because i owned a 2005 3500 dually with a cummins. I had just rolled 190,000 before i traded it in. I had absolutely no issues with it except a waterpump. Trans was still strong. A/c never gave me any issues. Tons of power to tow with stock. I towed a car hauler from Virginia to St petersburg florida with no issues at all and got 17mpg. They are very solid trucks and i would definitely consider purchasing one.

well I bought a truck.. 2007 duramax dually.. looks showroom.. 100,000 miles, one owner truck.. so far.. its the best TOWING VEHICLE I HAVE EVER PULLED WITH.. that allison tranny is the real deal.. pulls on cruise control and does not loose 1 mph going up any overpass/hill that I have hit yet.. just unreal... it DOGS MY 7.3 PULLING POWER.. not even close.. sorry ford lovers:slap::slap::slap:
