There is always a couple of sightings of white sharks off of georgia each year, I have a great photo from the DNR helicopter of a nice one chewing on a dead whale. PM me your e-mail and i will send it to you.

I never knew white sharks would come that far south...I always though them to be an extream cold type of shark and preferred temps in the 40's and below.

All documentation says that they like colder water but they always end up in places they're not typically supposed to be.

On the other hand we really don't know much about them at all..

GW will and do inhabit waters ranging from 80 deg down. They inhabit all waters within that temp range. Smaller sharks will be found feeding on migrating fish while the larger adult males and female will be found around large piniped [seal] populations. One of the largest specimens ever caught was entangled in a fishermen's net between KW and Cuba. If I remember correctly it was around 21-23ft.

GWs have been seen and caught around Tampa Bay. One on the bay side of the Skyway.
...just something for you to remember when you're diving around the Skyway. :D

Also been one's caught out of Port St. Joe and I've heard rumours (when I lived in Mexico Beach) that they've been spotted out of St. Andrews bay... But of course that could be just a big mako someone misidentified... Either way, scary stuff.

The ones I speak of were definitely GWs.

I recall a report on spearboard several years back about someone and their son being followed to the surface by a great white while diving off Jacksonville.

Cherokee, if there's gonna be a bid shark caught it will be off St. Joe beach or Cape San Blas. They run around the gulf side of the cape and then funnel through the pass feedin on mullet and all the baitfish. They catch monsters every year. I was talkin to the NOAA guys that do the shark surveys, and in 6 hours they had caught over 100 sharks in the bay. They said that St. Joe bay is the largest bull shark nursery in the U.S. I have an uncle that flew over the bay and said he would never get back in it. I don't doubt for a second that there has been a GW caught up this far, the water is ~63 degrees right now.
