Got this in an email today. 118 pound wahoo. 77 inches long. Second largest ever speared. La state record. He said the H and L guy in the boat next to them caught a 490 pound mako, which made it difficult to relax in such pristine vis. I havent heard he whole story. Leave it Cam....

Didn't even pull the buoys under. I remember sitting in Cam's college barracks room up in New York. We would just sit there during the winter and thumb through "Last of the Blue Water Hunters" to make the time go by. Cam, it looks like that book was wrong, baby! It is awesome to see Cam living the dream and shooting those huge fish.

That is an amazing land:smthumbup:. I had heard it through the GRapevine;) and it is good to finally see the pic, can't wait for the story. Shooting that monster in murky water with 500 pound Makos lurking is flat out amazing. Glad you made it happen. What's the record anyhow?

:allhail: what a fish! how do you bw hunt in that mud? wow.

It is just river water on top, it opens up real clear but with less light down about 15 feet or so usually.

I had a 56 pound wahoo of my own by the throat when I saw his float go screaming off. When he hit the surface he started screaming about shooting THE ONE!!! He wasn't kidding that thing was more than twice the weight of what I thought was a pretty good fish.

My favorite quote of the trip "Chad dive now - there are 50 big hoos below you." Even better, it was true.

Hey Chad, were you guys using bungie floatlines or just hard-lining them?

Griswold

Cam had a 75' bungie to one of Riffe's new large blowup floats. It has two tuna clips on the front like what you sketched in the tuna board thread. The big wahoo didn't even take it down. Cam had no problem getting the fish up by pulling bungie in and clipping it off with the second tuna clip as he went.

Bill had 2 Rob Allen hard floats and a float line that stretches a good bit before the spectra core makes it static. On his mid 80's wahoo the floats were gone for 2-3 minutes. We had the guys on the rig looking for them. They popped up about 1/4 mile away.

I started with one of my small tuna boards and a 1/2" solid bungie. It did fine with the first fish I shot, but even with the front of the board cut like the bow of a boat it has a lot more drag in the water and is harder to swim around with. I think a big part of the drag is that the solid bungie sinks and doesn't stay straight. I switched to a float line that stretches and has a spectra core. I went ghetto and attached it to some longline floats that I had as backup.

That's damn impressive. Looks like he was diving in a sewer. He's got some balls to spearfish in that knowing there were big makos in the water.

Check this out. My fish in the background was a little under 60 pounds. Cam's fish in the foreground looks like it could eat mine.

"Yeah lucky for me the belly meat on that fish was more than two inches thick. I had to hold off shooting it because there was a 90 lb one in between us that was holding just a foot off the side of the big one parrallel to him.
I wanted to do a fish print of the whole fish but it was just too big to deal with (a problem i wish I had more!)
I'll keep you guys updated on it but I sent the head which weighed 25 lbs to the guys at HELTERSKELETONS.COM if you haven't seen there stuff it is pretty crazy work
I've been talking to them at the last couple boat and dive shows and Grant was really stoked to get a big Wahoo or Tuna head so we'll see how it turns out. Should be pretty badass. I wanted to have something different than just a mount to remember that day.
Thanks for the props guys. I'll bring some fillets back next time or you can come get them yourself!
