Just wanted to introduce myself. I am a rookie to spearfishing, just started checking this site out today, and already got a whole lot of good starter info. Hope to be posting some reports soon.
Look forward to the tips:toast:

Welcome Bryan, to the sport and Spearfishing Planet. You will quickly learn that this sport is very addictive and the people that participate in it are extremely dedicated to protecting it. Good luck and dive safe! There are world class spearfisherman in here. If you are respectful, they will share advice with you that would take you years to learn otherwise.

Thanks for the welcome fellas, I am very excited to get into this. But like I said I am new, so please forgive some of my potential ingnorant questions. After reading the newbie's guide and a few other threads on here, I am starting to narrow down my choices on my first speargun purchase. Would it be best to purchase one new or used? I am 150% sure that I will quickly become addicted to this sport, and I know that with some items it may just be worth the extra $ to get something new when starting out. But then again I dont wanna risk messing up something brand new, while experimenting with it to get comfortable. Any thoughts?
Thanks
Bryan

I'd definitely say go for new, but it depends on your budget, and what you are looking for.
My advice is to post a thread in the Spearguns section asking for recommendations. Include a rough budget, type of diving (freedive, scuba, or both), where you typically dive, and what fish you are after.
Then, take the advice of the people here. Most of them know what they are talking about. One thing I'll tell you now is don't get a starter gun. Get one that you can use for years. It will save you money in the long run, and also save lots of frustration.
