I am a little late posting this, but I just got back from the Keys last night. This was the first year my two boys, ages 6 and 8, have gotten involved in lobstering. We started the day out on Wednesday just inside the reef in 20' of water. I busted my butt, and probably checked 20 rocks to only find one keeper. Lots of shorts though. My boys wanted to get involved, and since the reef was dead, we decided to try Bayside. We worked waters in the 6' range, and did fairly well in the grass flats. My kids got their first try at being drug. They did really well, but they do need to improve their lobster siting skills. That will come with practice. We only lobstered on Wednesday until about 12:30, and on Thursday we went to Key West for a fun day. Total tally was nine bugs, which was not too shabby. A far cry from the heyday back in the 90's when myself and my bros would go non-stop for two days and absolutely crush them. My boys are coming into their own, and within a few years Dad will be able to sit on the boat and sip barley pops while they bust their butts. Here are some pics:
This first one is my 6 year old Joey dragging behind the boat.
