Thanks to all those who helped put on this tournament. We had just under 100 register and a few more than half that made it back to the weigh-in line in time. Some poor souls aree still being towed back home. But, that's the way it is in every tourney!
We had a lot of good prizes, many great sponsors and some nice glass to give to the winners AND MOST IMPORTANT, we raised over $1000 for the FRA and Ocean Pals.

Sorry I missed this one guys, but I'm glad to see that Bryan and Jeep finally made it into the top 50. Thanks to all that competed and helped raise $1,000 for excellent causes. Congratulations to Bill Hardman and the rest of the tournament committee of the TBSC on year 2 of this event. It grew about 40% this year?

Financial Advis Congrats Gene on your lobster but I think the real story is how hard Chris worked for his .025 spanish lobster. Not only did he log 7 1/2 hours driving time but burned over 1500 psi's on capturing that beast. His thumb and index finger bare the wounds of this hard fought victory. When returning to the boat he commenced to proclaiming his certainty of glass to all on the boat but his glory was short lived when John Huerra surfaced with a much larger spiney I feel this story had to be told for all future competitors. Victory and defeat we all may experience. What a blast!!!!

We had an awesome day up north, came in a little later than planned but we sent the rest of the team to make the weigh in while myself and Charlie inloaded the boat and the gear. then quickly scurryied down to the weigh in.

Made 6 dives and seen some great things, couldnt ask for a better day. I was SO surprised i got glass. I was not expecting it at all with my catch.

Again, thanks for getting us off the bar! When we ran up on it I thought we were done. On the bar, out going tide, boat weighed down with gear and 200 gallons of fuel was not a good formula for success. Thanks to you and your crew for stopping and taking the time to get us out.:yay: We made it back to the dock with 30 min to spare. We had to haul A$$ to the grounds cause of that. but that's "TEAM SPEARING magazine" for tournaments now. check Teh Wicked's shirt. I gave Brandon a call last minute when I saw he didn't find a ride, and my brother canceled last minute. He's gotta be most improved spearo so far. Great first tournament for me, had a blast.

We'll plan better next year to find some Cuda and sheepshead.

While you did score a sweet ass AJ last year in the St. Pete Open, Trey and I both smoked you in 2005 and 2006. I'll post the stats if you need me too :whistle: :D

My report:

We left the ramp at around 5 – 5.30. Everyone but Jeep was practically asleep before we even made it out of the pass. Before we did exit the pass we came across Team Diversion who seemed to be having a slight difficulty with forward motion, or any motion for that matter. After a few hard tugs and lots of muscle on their end we were able to finally free them. :thumbup: We learned a valuable lesson right there as they nudged Jeep out of 1st place grouper at the very end of the day. From here on out it’s cut throat on tournament day!! :slap: ;)

We punched it out of the pass and headed to our first couple spots in 135. In 2 or 3 drops the 4 of us had our AJ’s and a bunch of nice mangos. Grauwer nudged Trey out of the AJ running on the last drop out there by topping his by almost 10 lbs.

We started our long run back in to shallower water around 1 just after it started to rain. We were running straight into the 3-4’s at 20-22 knots for a solid hour and a half and it never stopped raining from the beginning of the ride. Passed Team Hungry Howies out there and they were getting hammered as well. One thing we couldn’t figure out was why they weren’t sitting on the 2 or 3 bean bags hanging off the t-top. :scratchhead: We were all itching to get back in the water as it was much warmer than the air at that point. At least it felt that way! Couple more drops in the 90 foot zone and we started filling out our hogfish, snapper, and grouper categories. It was on my last drop of the day where I scored my cuda in the sand that pushed me up into eventually 3rd place overall. That’s the second time a cuda has been my lucky fish on the last drop of the day.

Of course the last 20 mile run in was like butter. 1 maybe 2 foot. Rain still sucked though!!

The BigStick ended up with 1st place AJ, and 3rd and 4th place overall. Taking 3 pieces of glass rounded us out to boat of the day.

Thank you to all the sponsors who contributed to make this tournament happen, the prize table was STACKED!! Also want to thank all the volunteers that worked hard to pull everything together despite the adverse weather. These tournaments would be very difficult to run without the help from the volunteers, thank you!!

Thank you to all of the participants. There was a lot of decision making going on prior to the tournament due to the forecasted weather and vis reports but with all of you who decided to pull the trigger this tournament was a great success for all, thank you. I sincerely hope everyone went home in high spirits.

My day started out at 3:50am with a departure to Charlie's house around 4:05am. quickly loaded the boat with the gear and was on our way by 5am. headed straight out to the Anclote Barge/Tug with hopes of AJ's and Cuda. I dropped in behind Chuckd, with Gunny shortly behind me. I get down to the barge and sank through a cloud of Spadefish. only to meet charlie at the bottom with his Jack. So i started poking around the barge holes for big Mangoes. I look in one hole and see a large black object the looked like part of the boat. after a quick focus and a little closer inspection the object moved and it turned out to be a Cubera!!! so i quickly point my 52SS commercial into the small holes and fire. only to barely get him in the lip. after a short fight he quickly ran into the wreck to never been seen again. after retriveing my shaft I found a mangoe on the end, so there was 1 for the weigh in.

next drop was on a secret number that is a small profile wreck. I was first to roll and I get to the bottom only to be met by LARGE AJ's!!! I get excited and the big one turns away from me and disappears into the merk. So i look down and spot a male hog. plant one in his brains and sone him dead. quickly string him up, instantly met by Mr AJ. I plant the shaft in a good spot behind the gill and stun him pretty good. after I get him in a head lock he comes to life and the battle begins. After a few brused ribs and 5 stab wounds to his head he was on the stringer. I look up and Huntinfish was stringing up a Gag outside my cloud of dust. I surface with 1500lbs cause I had what i was after.

next 3 drops resulted in sand, I was disappointed but no one was to blame but myself. a strong current pulled the marker bouy off the spot and I was late getting in the water. Charlie surfaced with a gag or 2 and very respectable slipper.

after a command decision by the verterns of the boat we made a run out to 90fsw. I hit the water first and instantly met by MONSTER AJ's!!! I was mad...

I get to the bottom and find magoe's out thee wazoo! I land 1 respectable guy that would weigh in. only to turn and see the monster Red groupa! his coloring was weird and I though he was a gag. his actions resembeled a gag as well. most red grouper are not so evasive and smart. this one was, but after a stalk, one FUBAR'd shot. I finally plant one in his nugget and plant him on the stringer. shortly after he was greeted with 2 other gags. the ed weighed in at 9.3lbs gutted.

Last drop was in the near smae spot and I landeed my last 2 hogs and last 2 mangoe's. then we headed in...I ended up with 3 groupa, 3 hogs, 3 mangoes, and 1 amber jack that weighed in at nearly 23lbs.

Viz was AWESOME all day, while we was 51 miles out the seas was MAYBE 1ft. was a perfect day of diving. we was met by rough seas and rain on the ride in which made us a little late so we quickly got Potshot and Gunny in the truck and sent them to the weigh in so we was not late. me and Chuckd stayed and cleaned the boat quickly and unloaded the gear and made our way to the weigh in.

It made me wonder how many people know that we are all good friends just having some fun. Nsearch, bucket, myself, jeep, are all in the same clubs together and simply enjoy laughing at each other.
