Went out with some H&L friends a while back and slipped in the water to work a ledge while they were anchored. We were off of Bradenton in about 40' of water with 20'+ of vis.
As I eased down the shoulder I picked a few decent hogs off and strung em up, all the while checking the overhang for gags. On this particular drop I came upon a particularly nice section with good relief and was staring intently under the ledges for any sign of movement. Suddenly I caught a glimpse of a large grey object cruising head on at me and closing fast:eek:
Startled, I straightened up to get a better look at what was coming at me and realized it was a lone bottlenose doing the exact same thing I was doing:smthumbup: He was swimming sideways, head cranked in the direction of the same "honey hole" I'd been working, oblivious to my presence...
And then it happened. You know the feeling you get when you're so focused on what you're doing and then a shark "snaps" you back into reality? Well let's just say "I" got to be the shark this time:D That poor dolphin finally caught sight of me but not before he was within a few feet.
If I could have taken a picture of the expression on his face.. He did the exact same thing I did, he arched his body and pulled his head back.. looking right at me like "DAMN IT, you scared the SH!T out of me!"
We swam past each other, belly to belly looking at each other, both at this point recognizing each other's purpose.
I could almost swear he nodded at me as he went by. It was a good day.
