I will be in NC during the last week of July08 and each year I try to go out from Southport for a day of freedive spearing. For anyone not familiar with the area, we will go 25-40 miles offshore to the Frying Pan Shoals area and dive natural bottom, wrecks, and the tower. Depths average about 45 to 60 feet but fish can be shot much shallower (kings, african pompano, dolphin, permit have all been near the surface the last few times). I've been lucky the last two years with top to bottom vis up to 100 ft and more fish than I could have hoped for. Pm/email/call me if you want details. I need ideally 2 or 3 other freedivers to go. Last year I went out with Capt. Butch Foster on "yeah Right" charters and hope to go again with him this year. He normally does h/l charters but did an awsome job for us. Cost is $900 for the boat for the whole day (left around 7 and returned around 5pm). Boat is a 29 mako I believe with twin honda 4 strokes. It was fast and handled 4 divers really well. He had a mate last year that really made our diving easy with handling shafts, fish, floatlines ect. $250-300 a person isn't cheap for a day of diving, but the last few years it was well worth it to me for the fish we got. Last year Capt Butch had a house for the guys who needed accomodations that was a couple minutes from the dock and dirt cheap.
