Out of town (country, actually) relative wanted to go to the world-famous outer banks, so we packed up last-minuted and headed for the long drive out there. Of course being near the ocean, I wanted to get wet, so I called up Outer Banks diving and they were planning to go out on Saturday.
My daughter and I got on the boat, and it was fantastic! :yay:
We were the only spearos. My daughter got three fish (watch out SPO!) and I brought back 5.
It was a real pleasure going out with Captain Johnny and crew. The boat is really set up well for diving (love that ladder you can climb with fins on). And because we were spearing, they sent us down first. :) I've been out with Johnny before, but this was the first time on his boat at Hatteras.
We dove the British Splendor (http://www.nc-wreckdiving.com/WRECKS/BRITISH/BRITISH.HTML), which had a few sharks we had to poke away. It wasn't a big-fish trip, but my daughter did shoot her first (2nd and 3rd) fish, so I spent a lot of time reloading for her. :BoomSmilie_anim:
Water was warm- 72 on the top. 65 or so on the bottom. Finally it is starting to get warmer out here. Vis was decent at 30', and they say it is only going to get better from here on out. Fish were plentiful and dumb- but the bigger fish stayed away from us. The rest of the boat had a lot of techie divers. A total of 10 divers, and at least 3 had rebreathers. One guy did a 1hr50 minute dive at 100'.
The crew cooked up burgers and dogs during the surface interval, it was a beautiful day. A great trip- I'll definitely go out with them again next time I'm near Hatteras.
