So what have you all gotten to? What's the record now, 10min(no O2)? Interested to see what I can get to now...

I'm at 4:10 now, and have no idea where I'll be in a few more wks:scratchhead:

4:20 but my average bottom time is 50 sec.

3:15; average botom time 30-45 seconds.

Come hell or high samba, I'm going to break 4 this year.

Noah,
Did 4:00 a year ago on my couch watching Wet Dreams.... While certainly not hurting, statics will not be nearly as effective for increasing bottom time as repetitive underwater apnea laps in a pool. Oviously, these are not to be done by yourself, and do NOT rely on the lifeguard. He/she is not paying attention to you.

I could do 3:00 the first months I started freediving. It' sall about getting in a relaxed state on your couch. Havent done any for at least a year or 2, wonder what it will be?

You guys serious about the couch??? I can't hold my breath for shit out of the water.

My PB (recently acheived) is 5:12, which is up from my old 4:45 from last year.

This is an old thread but people continually contribute to it:

546 people saying they're static is better than 7:00:eek: Damn:slap: I've got some work to do to get in that club:)

My best static is 3:05 and dynamic in the pool is 175 feet. I have a hard time finding that happy medium where I am going slow enough to not burn oxygen by over exertion, but then I get too slow and run out of oxygen on time. Just to switch it up I am gonna start doing dynamic without fins.

What's your deal? You been diving at all and had a chance to get deeper yet?

I have not had the chance to dive since I got to Soto Cano. I have been pretty bummed since spearing is illegal here in Hondo. I think the training here at 2500ft above sea level will definately help me when I get back to Tampa in June.

Mine is 5 something.

Static is my least favorite disciplines though, and I probably have a shitty one, if I were to try again any time soon.

I think too many people get confused that the longer static they have, the longer dive they'll be able to achieve. That's a common misconception.

I would suggest practicing in a pool doing dynamics, or train in the ocean as much as you can. Working on your dive-reflex is going to do a lot more then statics will under the water.

I think my best was when myself and Gixxer was doing some pool training and I got to something like 2:30ish...Just laying on the couhc and watching Tv was 2:50.

How do yall do your statics? I can't remember the exact sequence of breath up and holds, but I remember the ones I did at pfi were floating in a pool face down in the water and somthing like this: We worked our way up doing somthing like 2 min breath up and a 1 min hold, 3 min breath up for a 2 min hold, 4 min breath up for a 3 min hold, and then 5 minute breath up for your best hold? Does anybody remember the exact sequence they used in the statics? I remember getting to 5:10 or so but had a somba....

Is it better to just go for it from the beggining or work your way up like we did in pfi?

Oh yah, we were switching off with parners too so we did have breaks inbetween equal to our partners breath up and hold....

im pretty new to all this, my static is around 230. dynamic in a pool is about 200ft. i train dynamic on land as well by power walking around the house on carpeted areas, it seems to work well. i look pretty funny while doing this, but it keeps the family entertained

Gotta ask... Why on "carpeted areas"? So you don't split your head open when you pass out, or for resistance:D

hahahaha. i chose the carpet so i dont bash my head :banghead: as bad if the chance of me blacking out happens. i also avoid hard furniture. and the added resistance is just a bonus

I'm not sure whether this is unusual or not, but my statics are for shit and I can still put in 2:00+ dives. I find that even when I'm diving I need something - like a school of fish - to focus on or I end up thinking about the whole lack of air issue to the point of distraction. At least that's my operating theory. Just thought I'd chime in.

Dive safe,

Andrew

This is a little off the subject of statics, but I just got a personal best freediving into a cave (don't jump all over me guys, I am NACD certified) with 104' depth for 1:27.

Nice! What spring is that? I love seeing how far back into the "ballroom" I can get at Ginnie springs:crazy:

We dove two different springs the other day, and the second one was this incredible oasis of in the middle of a swamp about a 30 minute drive from the nearest paved road. Only a few people know about it and I was sworn to secrecy by the guy who took me there. In the video I linked below, the crystal blue area you can see from the surface is about 15' deep!

So Jim, where'd you get those flap 80's? I've been looking, but i can only find them overseas, and I don't feel like dishing out for the shipping.

Get'em while you can. I was told by Mark L. the Flap 80 is out of production so C4 can push the Super Falcons. Mine have a lot of dives but still look great because I baby them like a madman!!!

Ah, that's super gayyyy. Oh well. No 80's for mee.

If I'm dishing out that kind of $$ I guess I'd rather get a better mono. Thanks for the info though, Jim.

New PB of 3:20 yesterday...

Just before the 1999 Nationals I did a 4 min static. My average underwater time is about 90 secs. I have done 2.5 in 30 ft. but my average depth is 60ft and I average 1.30-1.45. I have written articles on increasing this time. I am 50 now so I am sure younger bucks can do better.

I'm good for about 1:20 swimming laps.
I can't hold my breath while I'm out of the water either.

Looks like Buford in Hernando county. That is a really cool spot.
I dove it several times, Sucked walking back there with tanks on.
My buddy got sucked into a mud hole way up past his knees and fell forward. He couldn't move and I had to take his doubles off for him. He didn't think it was too funny, I did! LOL

I think he does it so that if he drags his feet he can do a "static" dyanamic:lol:

What exactly is a breathup? Ive always been confused by this are you just breathing deeply for a certain amount of time? Ive got about a 3:30 static.
