View Full Version : St Pete Open Sponsorship Opportunities
Dean Palmer 07-20-2007, 11:17 AM Become a sponsor of the St Pete Open, The World's Largest Spearfishing Tournament!
Spearfishermen support the businesses who support their sport. This is your chance to support the tournament, and become a recognized part of the spearfishing community all year long. The recognition doesn't end with the tournament, but continues all year through www.StPeteOpen.com, and the printed Sponsor Listing book that is given to everyone at the tournament.
There are still some spots open for sponsorships, and they start at only $200! Everyone can be a sponsor and get their business name on the shooter's shirt, on the website, and in the printed Sponsor Book for this low price.
Once the space is gone, it's gone!
Go to www.StPeteOpen.com for details, or feel free to contact me directly.
ScottL 07-20-2007, 11:19 AM I believe that "The Great One" is coming by today to pick up our prize donations...
Good luck to everyone involved, and be safe!
:)
Dean Palmer 07-20-2007, 11:25 AM It looks like we will need a BIG truck to get all the prizes that the sponsors are donating this year! Once again the prize table will be full to the point of sagging, and these are nice prizes I see coming in!
I'm shooting for the dive/fish Kayak already sitting in the prize locker!
hogsniper 07-20-2007, 11:26 AM Thanks Dean, the St. Pete Open has a proud 42 year history. Hosted by one of the oldest active spearfishing clubs in the world. This tournament strongly supports diver's rights and youth spearfishing. We always have a great turnout and hundreds of spectators. My favorite part of the tournament is the Saturday night weighin. I love to see divers from many states and countries come together for the biggest party in spearfishing. You can boast, brag, and bet-but you better bring a monster to the weighin!
Dean Palmer 07-20-2007, 11:37 AM Not only is it a great event, it is held at a very nice place (Holiday In Sunspree) with swimming pools, docks, a beach area, and lots of food and drink!
A great showcase event for the tournament and its sponsors, and a nice place to take the family for the saturday weigh-in party, or the sunday awards ceremony.

It is our pleasure, really.
Just don't take one of the Flathead Regs, then sell it in order to upgrade.
:D

I'm sensing some sarcasm here.

:DGeez, don't be so touchy. I am selling a $500 reg to buy a $1000 reg. I still dive a Stilletto.

Ya think????
:D
I'm just busting your balls, John...
I thought that was allowed here?
ScottL 07-20-2007, 12:10 PM Geez, don't be so touchy. I am selling a $500 reg to buy a $1000 reg. I still dive a Stilletto.
On a serious note, at what depth do you think you will notice a $500 improvement?
RichH 07-20-2007, 12:13 PM On a serious note, at what depth do you think you will notice a $500 improvement?
It's not about the improvement. John just wants to look good while topside. It's all about the labels. John is going to look like a Nascar driver before long!:D
ScottL 07-20-2007, 12:16 PM Ah, hell....you should have just said that you wanted something prettier.
That I can understand.
(maybe a mod should clean up this thread, it is getting off topic ;))
RichH 07-20-2007, 12:19 PM The mod rights are still being worked on. There are very few sections I have edit rights in.
Capt. Bill 07-20-2007, 12:41 PM More prizes for the table. The $600 Group Category Prize Sponsors are adding an additional $200 of prizes (each), for the SPO prize table. That's another $1600 that some deserving SPO participants can win!!!
hogsniper 07-20-2007, 12:49 PM Maybe it's the artwork, the new sponsor shirts, the new location, or the rich history of the tournament, it is going to be another great year for everyone. I can't wait to see you guys again.
Gamble 07-20-2007, 01:18 PM RZ when do I need to have the BIG Sail and Poon finished?
hogsniper 07-20-2007, 01:20 PM I would like to thank a new SPO sponsor, www.hammerheadbackplates.com. These guys are machinists and tech divers. I personally own one of the 316 SS backplates(10 gauge) with the heavy single tank adaptor. These two together weigh 10 lbs. That puts me in the water with no additional weight and a much more streamlined and balanced profile. We will have several backplates, aluminum and stainless steel on the prize table from Hammerhead. They are great to work with. The prices are about half of what the DIR type guys charge. The backplates we have coming do not have the laser cut handles like in photo.
If you look very closely, you can see a backplate somewhere in the photo.
Screen Name 07-20-2007, 01:51 PM Sponsor wars are hopefully over. For me, its not all about huge prizes.
We need to get back to what we always enjoyed: Partying with our friends, winning something if we got lucky, promoting the sport, and honoring the people and companies that help us do that each year.
hogsniper 07-20-2007, 04:24 PM We just locked in another new sponsor, Boater's World. They are donating 5 $100 gift cards to be used in one of the stores to the prize table. www.boatersworld.com

John,
What sponsor wars were there? Are you saying that people actually blamed the SBO for not donating to the SPO?? Just curious....
Scott
Edit: damn...how do I make that avatar smaller?? Johnny is HUGE!! :D
hogsniper 07-21-2007, 08:43 PM That's the biggest finger I have ever seen!
bgbill 07-21-2007, 09:15 PM Here is a picture of a custom made gun rack that will hold 6 guns, last year it was picked very early, hopefully it will be a valued prize again this year.
Some sponsors may look at Return on Investment on sponsoring the SPO, however for me, that isn't what it's about, it is about supporting a group of great guys, that put on a great tournament that supports divers rights.
The SPO isn't about turning a profit, it is about a bunch of friends coming together for the love of spearfishing, and having a great time.
We may butt heads at times but when it comes down to it, we are all good friends who would drop what we are doing to render a hand, if one of them needed help.
I am honored to have gotten the call to ask me to be a sponsor for the SPO 2007.
Spearchucker 07-21-2007, 10:01 PM Glad to have you back as a sponsor. I think that rack went in the 1st or early second round last year? I cannot recall, but I do know it was very early.
So whats it take? Do I bring a sheet of starboard and a case of beer over to get mine?

Competition, fierce competitition has been under way between competing forces in the spearfishing community for the past couple of years. Different websites, clubs, competitors, sponsors, agendas, etc.
I am most proud of the fact that in the past three days, I have received numerous offers of cooperation from nearly every corner of the spearfishing community. It is becoming clear that there is going to be a huge resurgence of teamwork, fair play, cooperation, support, and doing what is right for the community.
We are glad to have you back Bret. Thank you for your support
