View Full Version : Killing them softly....
FREEK 08-04-2007, 07:55 PM Kris,Oto,Pargo,Pantoja, and myself hit some new spots off Haulover. After a quick meet with Speedy's boat we went our seperate ways. :D. Didn't do anything too deep 40-60 ft. Special thanks to Kris, even though he stayed out all night, and made chum to prove it, he still put us on the fish.
The batteries in my camera died.
ApneaSpearo 08-04-2007, 09:27 PM Frank, congrats on that king man, those aren't easy to spear.
The day was fun despite all the puking, thanks Pantoja.
Number1StunNer 08-04-2007, 09:42 PM Very nice fellas, and very true, Kris does his homework and will know where to take you to catch some fish...I especially like going "nowhere" ;) ...those are the best spots. Glad you all had fun.
LOMartin 08-04-2007, 09:51 PM very nice!
Seaweed 08-04-2007, 09:57 PM Sweet. Any word on the you know what:awink: on the you know where:awink:?
Very nice fellas, and very true, Kris does his homework and will know where to take you to catch some fish...I especially like going "nowhere" ;) ...those are the best spots. Glad you all had fun.
Dont forget about nowhere 3 and 4
Speareasy 08-04-2007, 10:01 PM OK, not a great catch but that pic does not do the fish justice. The bigger cuda that Pantoja got was huge, about as long as he is and weighing 36lb gutted. I was pleased with myself having estimated the weight at 35lb, fortunately Freek had a bran new scale.. My "small" cuda was 22lb for size comparison. I know cuda is not considered a big deal by many people but it is great eating, as good as the quality fish and better than most.
I was not however satisfied with the day in terms of strategy. It was fun shooting those fish that were passing through but it didn't make me feel that I improved my game. For filling up the cooler however Kris came up with a nice spot that was also fun to just practice diving in, thanks Kris and BTW I ended up with your mutton, and your energy bar, and your raisins, I think Oto ate your apple :D
Freeky, congrats on the mack, it's good fish don't have eyes on the top of their heads ;)
Oto, thanks for coming out, next time please wear a speedo.
Rolo, it was good to meet you and your crew, wish we had more time to hang out. Thanks for the bread and chicken.
I ended up with your mutton, and your energy bar, and your raisins, I think Oto ate your apple :D
Add to that what was left of our whole chicken and that's a pretty balanced meal:awink:.
Great meeting you guys, that's a nice mess of fish.
jerry1001 08-04-2007, 10:23 PM you guys eat the cuda ??what does it taste like??
nice pixs
Speareasy 08-04-2007, 10:23 PM Rolo, answer me this, how do you end up with a whole chicken on a boat? OK, I understand you bought it before heading out, because as of yet there is no boat beside the live bait boat selling grilled chicken (hmmm... good business idea), but that wouldn't work in my case! You see, a large part of that chicken would be gone before I even hit the water for the first time, then I'd be joining Kris bending over the gunwale :D Food is my only weakness, I will forgo decorum to the point of rudeness, even lower myself to abject picking of leftovers for a tasty morsel. A man must know and accept his limitations.you guys eat the cuda ??what does it taste like??It tastes good :D

Nobody was home:awink:
Number1StunNer 08-05-2007, 01:23 AM You guys know something about someone somewhere that I don't know?
ooboxer, I commend you on your commitment to exercising and shedding those extra few pounds. However, muttons are not the best option for bicep curls nor shoulder presses. The problem is that as you get stronger you will need to increase weight progressively, thus you will need to consistently shoot a bigger and bigger pair of muttons, and there is no guarantee of that. May I recommend switching to Chihuahuas, a much more sensible approach utilizing a more comfortable grip by the collar, weight can be increased by simply augmenting their food rations. Good luck with your endeavors.

HA HA:lol: You go into such great detail and make it sound so serious.
Rinaldo 08-05-2007, 03:07 AM Kick ass report fellas.
Hope to read something similar tomorrow if you end up going out.
Speareasy 08-05-2007, 12:50 PM Freek, why did you take down the pic? it wasn't that bad..
Gerald 08-05-2007, 02:07 PM Lets link up around one of the islands in the bay next time around after diving. Maybe have a few beers and some sashimi or ceviche.
I'm glad to hear Kris is human after all, normally he is like the energizer bunny. ;)
To bad your camera died. would have loved to see that big cuda.
Dive safe,
G
ApneaSpearo 08-05-2007, 03:06 PM Freek, why did you take down the pic? it wasn't that bad..
I think the pic got pulled by the admin, it wasn't spearfishingplanet friendly (too many hogs/muttons with no people in the picture).
ApneaSpearo 08-05-2007, 03:21 PM Yes, freek confirmed that this indeed was the case. I'd like to take this opportunity to get clarification on the photo policy. I was under the impression that part of another person was in the photo in question, in this case I think it was a hand or a foot, apart from the fact that freek said it was the four of us. If a hand or a foot is not enough I'd like to know how much of a person needs to be in the photo. Again can one of the administration please comment on this.
Gerald, Pantoja has some other pics of the cuda which I'll post later, and hanging out in the bay after diving sounds great.
I think any part of a person will count as a person, but the person taking the photo doesn't count. Therefore, if you have 10 hogs you need at least 2 people in the picture (limit of 5 hogs for each person).
Speareasy 08-05-2007, 03:24 PM Kris, I think you're are mistaken, the person taking the photo counts as one. It may be that in this case the administration didn't see the other person's hand. I deleted my post to correct something but by then you already quoted me.
kitefisherman 08-05-2007, 03:26 PM I did not pull the photo, but I did see it before it was pulled. The photo contained more than a single day's bag limit of hogfish. If you want to post a photo with more than a single day's bag limit, then you need to have at least one person for each limit or partial limit of fish in the photo. My understanding is that hands and feet don't count. I think that a face would.
I know that this can be a pain in the ass at times, but it's really not that hard to work around. If there are just two of you on the boat, then just take two photos - each with a single days limit or less. I now automatically do it when I think that I might want to post a photo. Of course you can also take a full deck shot if you want one for your own purposes. At the current time, the SFP policy is identical to that which we followed on SB.
kitefisherman 08-05-2007, 03:28 PM Kris, I think you're are mistaken, the person taking the photo counts as one. It may be that in this case the administration didn't see the other person's hand.
The person taking the photo does NOT count.
Speareasy 08-05-2007, 03:33 PM Kite, it's not a pain in the ass at all once I know for sure what the policy is. In this case I still want confirmation on whether a face is a must or if not where the cutoff point is, neck, waist, knees or ankles :D Not everyone wants their face posted. I didn't know what the SB photo policy was either. The person taking the photo does NOT count. If this is the case how can there be a photo with nothing but fish?
ApneaSpearo 08-05-2007, 03:35 PM Taken from spearboard:
Please do not post photos of fish, lobster or other catch that exceed the recreational one day limit for the number of people in the photo. The recreational limit is for the time of year when the fish were caught and based on the laws and regulations of the geographical area fished. The camera operator may not be counted as one of the people catching the fish or lobster. Should there be no people in the photo, the recreational limit shall assume only one person fished. Photos that do not comply with this policy will be taken down. If the photo requires a judgment call, the moderators have the sole discretion to do so. This policy also applies to the PhotoPost Members Galleries section of Spearboard in addition to the main forum.
So camera person doesn't count. If no one is in the pic then you have to assume that SOMEONE caught the fish, therefore a one-day limit is allowed for pics with no one in them.
I believe feet and hands count on the pics, this is how it was enforced on the other board.
kitefisherman 08-05-2007, 03:40 PM Kite, it's not a pain in the ass at all once I know for sure what the policy is. In this case I still want confirmation on whether a face is a must or if not where the cutoff point is, neck, waist, knees or ankles :D Not everyone wants their face posted. I didn't know what the SB photo policy was either. If this is the case how can there be a photo with nothing but fish?
How about either a face or at least half of a body? Can we work with that? :D
Seriously, deleting fish photos is probably the worst part of being a moderator. We aren't on a power trip nor do we want to put people down. We LOVE seeing photos great catches. Unfortunately, we also don't want to provide the fish huggers with ammunition that allows them to misrepresent what actually occurred.
Speareasy 08-05-2007, 03:40 PM How about either a face or at least half of a body? Can we work with that? :DI will do whatever I'm told, I just want to know for sure.
ApneaSpearo 08-05-2007, 03:43 PM Why would the camera operator count as one when there are fish only in the photo but not count when there is a person in the photo? Logically the camera operator should count as one in both cases. Regardless I will abide by the policy once it is confirmed by the powers that be, I still would like to know for sure about the body parts.
You can always have a one-day limit in a picture b/c at least one person had to spear the fish.
kitefisherman 08-05-2007, 03:44 PM I believe feet and hands count on the pics, this is how it was enforced on the other board.
Hands and feet did not count on SB - I was a mod there too. This is precisely the reason that Keyskiller and JLB are flipping the SB mods a bird in Keyskiller's avitar - we deleted one of their photos on similar grounds.
kitefisherman 08-05-2007, 03:47 PM Why would the camera operator count as one when there are fish only in the photo but not count when there is a person in the photo?
The idea is that we do not want there to be a photo that could be used as an example of spearfishermen shooting over their limit. It's not about counting itself other than that by counting we can desribe the policy so you guys can follow it.
I've heard and understand all these arguments. You have my sympathy, but the decision was made - after due consideration - to do it the way that I've described.
Speareasy 08-05-2007, 06:40 PM .
FREEK 08-05-2007, 06:50 PM I was asked to pull it. So I did. Next time I'll pack some extra batts....:slap:
Let's not turn this into an issue please.

Here you go. You were right, it was easier finding 2 chihuahuas than getting the two muttons.

Finally some pics, Pantoja with the cuda and one of part of the catch. Notice the ovaries still hanging out of the cuda, who do you think likes to munch on those :D
