Wanted to give everyone a heads up on the Grand Lagoon National fishing tournament that will be taking place here in PCB August 20-24. There are a total of eight divisions of fishing with spearfishing being one of them.

As of right now, our eligible fish for the diving category are: Gags, Red Grouper, Other Snapper (No Red Snapper), Barracuda, and Amberjack.

Spearing Days are August 23 and 24.
Registration Fee per diver is $132.50 by check or $145.00 by website.
Estimated purse will be approx $20,000

We have our website up and going with all the information at http://www.grandlagoonnational.com

We are still making changes to the website, and as such, there may be some inconsistencies until everything gets "hammered out" but the rules are 99% completed. Also, our online registration module is not totally completed yet, but will be shortly.

Anyone know who I could possible speak to in order to have our own forum created under the "Upcoming 2008 Events"? Haven't been able to find a contact or admin email anywhere on this site. More familiar with Spearboard.com than here. Need to get over here more often.

On that link it states that the Dive Division includes Gags, RG, AJ's, and Cudas. Under the Diving Rules it says that "the dive division has been organized to permit certified divers to compete for cash awards that will be presented for the heaviest Gag Grouper, Red Grouper, Red Snapper, Other Snapper, Amberjack or Barracuda". I just wanted to point out the descrepencies. Hope to be there,

They are working on updating everything due to all the changes from the original plan. Red Snapper is not a category as it will be closed in federal waters at that time. There is a small possibility that red grouper will turn into "other grouper" as a category to allow the larger blacks and the odd warsaw a chance as well as reds and scamps. But true blacks and warsaws are alittle rare around here and there is some concern by the powers that be that someone will bring in a Goliath, I have no idea why they think that but the head organizers aren't spearos so they may not know we aren't retarded.

Right now all the leg work is being done by volunteers like Biggen who tend to know more than the people they are helping when it comes to spearing, which has got to be frustrating at times. Anyway good work getting the word out Rodman and thanks for your work and time to make this tournament happen!

Pat hit it right on the head. We have had serveral rule changes in the past few weeks and the web guys are a little slow to update the site. Right now the catagories of eligible fish are as follows:

Gag Grouper, Red Grouper, Other Snapper (No Reds), AJ's, and Cuda's.

Trying to open up another grouper catagory but as of right now the above is what is eligible for spearing.

Black Grouper was added this morning as an eligible fish for the Dive and Party Boat division.

Just found out about this tournament, it sounds great! Me and a few other guys were talking about it today, you can count us in.

I've been looking forward to this tourny since ours got cancelled. Hope I have the extra cash to shoot it. Good chance I'll have a team from Gulf County. Look forward to seeing you guys there.

You should start seeing our promotional material soon (tv, radio, etc...) We are generating a TON of buzz about this tournament. I can't wait!!
