All you guys who have taken the PFD, or Fit classes lately, what equipment did you use? I'm signed up for a PFD intermediate class September and don't want to show up with the wrong stuff.

I generally use a Omer Alien mask. Do I need one with a smaller volume?

I generally use a maresailles belt that is pretty long, reading the manual they don't like the extra length, what is best for the course?

For a wetsuit, I'm assuming that a skin will be all I need in Miami in September. Am I right about this?

I'm good on fins - C4 Mustangs.

I'm good on a computer - Suunto Mosquito.

What am I missing that you guys who have been through it recently found helpful?

I know this might sound petty, but I'd like to be prepared as possible, and thus as comfortable and relaxed as possible during the class. It's not cheap, especially when you factor in time off, plane tickets, hotels, etc.

Thanks,

Chad

Your Alien is fine. Don't forget your snorkel since you will be using it a lot during pool work and your breath ups out in the ocean.

Get a standard J snorkel, no purge. (Omer Zoom...cheap!!!)
Might wanna bring an extra set of fins for pool exercises, so you dont scratch up your C4's. And you may wanna go with something a little thicker than a skin. Yes its still warm in September but that thermo wakes you up!!!

C4's have lots of rigrash, they'll be OK in the pool. Thanks for the heads up on the thermal.

chad,

everything you have so far is good

I would say make sure to bring a few 1 lb weights, they are going to want to fine tune your weight to the pound.

Ear wash, the public pool had chicken bones and watermelon at the bottom:smthumbup:

Bring some nice clothes, there is alot of nightlife in coconut grove.;)
we stayed at the Mayfair(highly recommended)

Yep, what Pat said.
We didnt really seem to need 3 ml suits but we did spend at least 4 hours in the water each day and may have been getting cold late in the day I dunno. Better to be too warm I suppose.
Pray that they have cleaned that pool. The vis in it was less than 15 feet. (No BS) and the aforementioned food items were indeed in the water along with socks, an earing and who knows what else. They told us the previous pool manager had left and the new guy was just getting started so It'll probably be fine when you get there.
If you wear a hood make small holes in the ear spots. I was amazed at the difference that makes for clearing. Huge. I heated a coat hanger and poked it thru.
I got 1 lb weights at the dive shop on the dock where the boat boat departs from. They had a decent selection of stuff.
