Please take into consideration I have never used a float line. With that in mind, how do you make sure you don't get tangled up in the floatline after you shoot a fish?

Since I am right handed, if a fish was swimming from left to right when he gets shot, I would expect him to continue that path taking the line away from me. If he was swimming right to left when he gets shot, it seems like the line could get wrapped around me.

I don't have a sliptip. Would it be a waste of time to shoot a dolphin with a single barb shaft?

Thanks,
Gary H

since most float lines float its pretty easy to move out of the way or duck under them and get away after shooting a fish. Also for a couple seconds after getting shot most fish seem to be kinda stunned and then they make their runs, take this brief window to get set up for a fight. Make sure your floatline doesn't wrap around anything like your leg or fin or god forbid your neck before you shoot though.

It wouldn't be a waste to shoot a dolphin with a flopper shaft - just check out Wet Dreams where Cam shot several under a FAD. The biggest thing here is to make sure that your flopper is tuned to open to ~60-70 degrees and stay open and be very careful when you are about to grab the fish, making sure that you keep even pressure against the flopper at all times. Lots of big fish are lost on the surface with flopper shafts because the fish isn't kept under control and end up bouncing around enough to shut the flopper and escape.
