I have a pdf file of the U.S.C.G. Boat Crew Seamanship Manual. More specifically, “Chapter 15: Search and Rescue.” Guys, this is the authoritative source of information on how to find a person in the water. The document is 56-pages long, but the meat and potatoes is in the last 20-pages.

It requires some basic navigation skills beyond punching a waypoint into a GPS, but it’s not advanced by any stretch. The value in learning the techniques and terminology of the Coast Guard is not only going to increase your odds of finding your floating diver, but it’s also going to standardize your response to what the U.S.C.G. uses. In short, it gets everyone in the search effort on the same page from the get-go, when it really counts.

I’ll send it to anyone that wants it, just PM me your email address.
