Like my hero Emo, I got my first Cobia today! Woooohooo. Mine looks a little different than his, maybe a little bigger, but I maybe it was because of Emo's understated nature and not doing the 'florida push' for his photos.

Getting a cobia was a goal of mine this year and I knocked it off early! :2gunsfiring_v1:

Pics to come- going inshore tomorrow for some flounder.

Here it is- yes, I look like a goofball, but OMG, I shot a cobia!

Everything I heard about cobia is true. That fish was so hard to land. I had just tied the anchor in to a wreck about 25 miles out of Beaufort waiting for my dive buddy and seeing all the sharks swimming on the wreck. I turned around and right behind me I saw two sha...COBIA! I quickly shot him in the head and shaft went all the way through, but he immediately shot down to the sand. I kept swimming with him and managed to load my second shaft and shot him again. With two shafts, he's still swimming. My dive buddy makes it down, and I make the shark symbol and ask him to look around while I take care of this fish. I pin the cobia to the ground, string him up and stab him in the top of his head. He's still kicking- I'm getting really nervous about sharks so I rip out a set of gills to knock him out. It was quite exciting!:yay:

That was the absolute highlight of the trip because we got so beaten up out and in. 4-6 seas out, and 6+ on the way in. I blew chunks 3 times... :o Still had a great time.

Today we went within sight of shore and I got a grouper and we had a guy on the boat who is the best flounder-sticker I have ever seen. We limited out on flatties by 10 in the morning and came back in. Seas were gorgeous today, and vis was an amazing 20 feet so close to shore. But sharks were there too and I got into a poking match with one who really wanted to see our underwater collection of flounder. I hope these sharks move out with the warmer water coming, or I might get a shark shield.

Thanks to Ken for a great couple of days!

I wish the weather did what the NWS told it to do, which was lay down by noon, but that didn't happen. The upside is I now know what Torgtuga will do in a 6 foot head sea. She sticks her head down like a prize fighter and plows right through. Only couple of times did a 8 footer sneak up on my and she came off hard and pounded, but considering the sea state, we were lucky to get offshore and dive and come home with all of our teeth.

Then friday was beautiful and it was a pleasure to be back on the sea. We got it mixed up, we should have stayed inshore on Thursday and gone offshore on Friday.

Toecheese offered to clean my flounder and deliver the fillets. Now thats service!!

Not only is he a world class flounder sticker, he is one heckuva character. So much so I wrote a book about my experiences diving with Scotty. Check it out at www.lulu.com/krosemond

It's a good fish for grilling. Look in the recipe section. There's some good recipes in there.

No, No, No, don't eat it. I've got a chest freezer in my garage, we'll weigh that baby in at Spear Wars next year and knock those damn Cubans out of the money. And if that don't work, my neighbor has a nice Sailfish mount from a trip he took to Cabo last year, we'll just air freight that baby down there and weigh it in, just as long as Ronald McDonald doesn't turn the thing over, we'll be sure to score some glass. And remember, in the words of George Costanza - "it's not a lie if you believe it".

Congrats on the cobia Toe. Sounds like you guys are giving the old girl a workout on trips. Everything with the boat still going good?

So far so good. She needs a serious gear management system. We did get the hook deploy/retrieve and hangline system tightened up pretty well.

You need to come up to Morehead and dive with us. I do owe a trip or 2! :toast:
