Chuck,
Check out this page for some past pictures.http://divefsda.com/Southern_Open_Tournaments/Southern_Open_2008/Southern_Open_2008.htm
Then... click on "entry forms" on the same page and check out the rules under photography.
Good luck!
chuckd 06-02-2008, 06:19 PM well, I may be out of my league, but hoping to get that "lucky" shot.
what's the difference between fixed focus and digital categories?
i thought the photos were spearfishing related, like of someone bronco-riding a shark or being drug around by a goliath by their stringer...
i guess i can look for some reef fish too.

.
Chuck,
A "Fixed focus" camera is a film camera that has a fixed lens. In other words... a lens that doesnt move. These cameras are the cheapy cameras. You can even use one of those disposable cameras in a plastic housing designed for a swimming pool. You can usually take these disposables down to about 50 feet before the buttons stop working.
A "digital" is usually some sort of digital camera in some type of housing.
"Open U/W division is a film camera such as a Nikonos".
If your doing the tournament you might as well sign up for the photo division as pretty much any crappy old photo will not only get you a pick at the table but also another mystery ticket.
And, the photo contest runs for 2 weeks so you dont have to do the photo shooting the same time your doing the fish shooting.
This is why the Southern Open is a great family tournament.IMO
You can take the wife/kids out one weekend to take pics, and then take the regular crew out the next to kill fish.
Look at that crappy photo I took last year on th website. I took it in 5 feet of water on a little wreck inside tampa bay up on the flats.;)
I picked a Pinnacle 5 mil wetsuit for my photo pick.
chuckd 06-02-2008, 10:08 PM sweet. i'm in. and you turn in photos or a CD/memory card at the captain's meeting, right?
what about an image pulled from a video camera, would that be in the open division? and how many photos can you submit?
and sorry for all the questions, i didn't see any of this in the rules.

You have to take your film or digital camera to AO or Narcosis dive shop to register for the photos. They will mark your film or digital card and you can only submit what you take on that film or card and I think only 24 shots. No images from video or old pictures taken before registration.
