The Rocky Mountain Spearfishing Championship is about to kick off at Yuba Res. in central Utah on June 7, 2008. "The Stranger" and I will be making the 8+ hour drive from Montana to hit the opener (4 tournaments in the series). Cash and prizes-food and BEER! Anyone else heading this event? It's time the freshwater guys get together and earn a little cash (and respect).:D
I'll post pictures and a report when we get back to Big Sky Country.
If anyone is interested in attending I can help with details,
Mark

Long story short- it wasn't pretty. After a long drive we arrived at 2 am and drank a few beers to get over the fact we were in Utah. We woke up the next morning to 45* temps and rain. We hit the check in and caught our ride. Before we ever hit the water Jason "The Stranger" knocked my fins in the drink and I watched them sink in the 18" vis. I dove in with no lead or fins and tried to make a recovery in 28 feet of water. Needless to say it didn't happen, and my dive day was over. My backup fins were 10 hours away at home. The CO boys won our bet and I ate carp sashimi. Nate from Utah got his head shaved. The stranger may have puked up his carp -:redcard:but that's not my place to discuss on a public forum. We had a great time and met some nice folks. The winner took 118 fish. The big fish was 12.5#, pretty impressive given the conditions. I did win the hard luck prize- a new set of imersion fins that I will carry as back up when I travel from now on. Thanks again guys for a great tourney!
ps- next time Colorado won't be so lucky (or I won't be so unlucky)
I'll post some photos tomorrow when I get home.

Hey Mark, I don't know how I missed this thread. Sounds like a rough but interesting trip! I still don't have any gear up here, but if you guys need a boat driver or something I'll be around, mainly in August. I'd like to at least meet with y'all some time, maybe get to know Montana a little better.

Only thing I hate about SFP, is the freshwater sec isn't as active.

Aaron, it will be soon. I get done with a three week stint of work on Fri. Then it is off to the water for a week before the wedding. The lady has other plans for me, but I'm not biting. It's finally warm and the vis is great. Gonna kill me a twenty plus pounder this week and make him famous.
On second thought- why don't you go kill something.
Remind the critters what dominion is all about.
Holding my breath until the weekend.....then some more
:toast:
