Hit just south of Bayport with my Uncle, his two boys 14/11 and my wife. Headed out to some of the shallow rocks that where holding a couple fish and tons of scallops. Did the scalloping thing for about 30min and the vis started to haze up a bit. I decided it was time for a beer break and got out to relax. Everyone was on the boat but my uncle and his youngest son. My uncle pops up about 25-30 yrds from the boat and yells shark. I start looking for the 11yr old and find him on the swim platform. After him arguing with me for a min about why he should get out I just ripped him from the water. My uncle isn't acting overly panicked but is definitely keeping an eye on something swimming in circles around him. He finally makes a break fro the boat and tosses his ass over the gunnel. He proceeded to explain that it was a 9+ft Hammer head and he was face to face with him on his way back up from grabbing a scallop. He circled him a few times and swam off.

A month or so ago I had a nice gag removed from a shaft at the same spot by another BIG hammer head.

Keep your eyes open on there scalloping. The majority of scallops seem to be a bit deeper and the sharks seem to be in the area.

Gamble you need to name your boat the "Shark Magnet". How deep were you guys and where were you?

9ftish south of Bayport about 3 miles. I didn't see the shark this time but they do seem to follow me around a bit.

We were a few mile south of you and near enough the same depth. The vis was hit or miss, but we managed four nice flounder, a few snaps and a nice triggerfish. Not bad for a couple hours.

Well, we were west of Chaz, with our 13 yr. old, who had scallops in one hand, and flounder hanging off the pole spear in the other. That hammerhead could sure ruin a child's perception of gigging flounder for fun. Guesss we better keep a close eye - you know I think there are more shark issues in close than farther out for the Bayport area, or am I wrong? Thanks for the story... I wonder just how many encounters there really are off this coastline each weekend???

and you want me to take you on my boat  i guess it would be ok but i'm not your wing man:lol: we did great on scallops too. 5-6 ft did run out to 15ft strong current, no vis, didn't see any fish, so we didn't stay to long

Don't worry they only bother me and family members,, maybe it's like jaws #10 where the shark follows them to the Bahamas?:D

Hey, Gamble, has anyone noticed how the water quality is different west of Chaz these days? The water has a milky tint to it, and the sponges aren't doing as well in shallow spots there...

It's all the crap getting flushed out of the Chazz. When the cops show up along the river all the toothless ones toss their meth, crack, and paint into the drink.:scratchhead::whistle:

Cam I will give you a Buzz if we are going to hit it this weekend,,,, What do you have going on tomorrow?
